Seriously, he is treated differently than the others. Call it what you will…just not on this message board.
I just think that we need to accept that hitting another coach is a step beyond being cantankerous and is going to come with a little more…negative attention
Sparties will always “Sparty!” I mean they just can’t help it! I understand there may be a course at Michigan State called, “How to Sparty!”
Is the Nebraska offense built around Tominaga? It seems to be him, Walker and Greisel in equal shares right?
Of course, no reason, though, to treat him differently now when he is NOT abusing officials, players, OR coaches.
I mean, Fran standing there and staring down an official form ten feet is actually an act of cowardice if truth be told. My wife hates it when I call someone an idiot so I won’t call Fran an idiot! Sadly, he will not learn. He will be made a hero. Stare down an official with your hands on your hips and a scowl on your face and your kids will come back with a miracle win. What a GREAT coaching job by Fran! What an idiot! Whoops. Hope my wife isn’t reading this…
So I will say that Juwan has had his share of times where his players/assistants have held him back. Fran just hollers (and hollers and hollers). Now I’m not saying they HAD to hold him back, but they did, and that lends to an appearance of a lack of control.
I just think he is paying penance mostly from the post-game fight and probably will for awhile.
Nebrasketball is 15-14! Their next game is against … Sparty. That should be interesting.
What does Miami losing at home to FSU say about the ACC?
It makes your rebuttal of “but the Big Ten’s better than the ACC!” even funnier as a counter-argument that the Big Ten stinks
Is this what you think? If so, you don’t know Fran’s history
He’s been ejected for bumping an official during a tirade. He’s been suspended for screaming at a ref in the tunnel after a game.
These things are way more threatening to the officials than anything Juwan has done toward a ref
Looks to me like he’s being held back here too. Not very well though
I can’t even imagine the reaction that would’ve come if Juwan stared at an official to try to intimidate him like Fran did
lot easier to hold fran back and it probably doesn’t look too threatening to a ref because there’s no illusion that he might make it through multiple assistants
Again
I think hitting someone on the court is a level of escalation
I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s a reason and I think an obvious one. Like the collective mystification of the board on the issue is….mystifying to me.
Why else would refs specifically have it out for Juwan (if they do?)
Don’t forget about the time he needed a police escort to leave the floor after being tossed at Northern Iowa.
I like what BQ said on the pod…this act is just tired. Every time he gets even slightly triggered he has his whole staff “holding him back”. It’s just old. As much as he probably should have been run I guess you have to give Kelly P credit for just taking it.
I actually don’t think this is really about Juwan, and I don’t think refs really have it specifically consciously out for him. I think this is more about some coaches get a much longer leash than others, and it looks, to me, like it aligns well with who American society allows to get angry without it being “frightening” or worthy of retribution.
Take Juwan out of it entirely, I still think it’s weird that Izzo and Underwood don’t get, like, three times as many techs as the rest of the conference. They seem to get techs when they want to get techs/to light a fire under their team, and otherwise it’s just seen as part and parcel of their act. It’s useful to them that they can get in refs’ faces with almost no limit. You can say that’s because they’ve learned the limits, and maybe they’re not saying any bad words when they’re gently misting the refs’ faces with saliva, but to me, it sure looks like their limits are very generous.
I don’t think refs are doing this maliciously, in general; I think the explanation falls well within the bounds of generally accepted emotional/cognitive biases.
Mackey is unbelievable right now. Most underrated venue in the country?
Boding well for IU. Within 1 at the under 11 and TJD doesn’t have a shot attempt.
Rare to see a young player with as good of mid range game as JHS
Wait til you see who transfers in!
Bad goaltending call. Cmon refs
3 guys have scored for IU. None of them is TJD. And they’re within 4. Crazy.
