Best backcourt in the Big Ten?

I think Bouie is is really good?

I’m with you. Just watching them play right now, I think they hit on a key ā€œfeelingsballā€ point on the broadcast. So many years scratching and clawing to get in the tournament that now they are in and pressure is off.

Its kinda like the reverse of the double digit losing streaks they are used to. Instead of things spiraling out of control now momentum is in a positive direction for them. I am just not seeing it with the talent level so this is the best explanation I got.

Buie is solid but Audige is the one that makes it all work IMO.

They are also winning a bunch of games at home that an NCAA team should win. Pretty curious how they look at Illinois and Maryland.

Also… Iowa away from home has been really messy.

Northwestern is 9th in the league in offensive eFG%. 11th in defensive eFG%. 10th in offensive rebounding. 13th in defensive rebounding.

ā€œThe ball is the programā€ is working for them. 2nd in offensive turnover rate, 1st in defensive rate.

Buie and Audige are both awesome and compliment eachother perfectly

6-1 in Big Ten games with 3 of the final 4 games away is worth noting.

If you bought low on Northwestern, now is the time to cash in your profits.

Record in ā€œclose gamesā€ on Torvik in league play:

Wisconsin’s volume is incredible.

They are also the oldest guard pairing in the league and have been playing in the same system in the same league forever. They aren’t transfers, freshmen, etc. In this era I think that’s a huge factor.

Kudos to them embracing defense, sticking it out, and taking advantage of a wide open league this season. Hard to believe they lost two starters to the ACC and got better.

It’s got to be frustrating when your team doesn’t play the championship defense you expect.

…who else do you think of but Fran McCaffery? Buy this DVD and your team can play defense like Fran’s Iowa Hawkeyes!

Definitely, and I thought that honor would reside in EL this year. But, I love experienced guards. And I’m a sucker for dudes who play like it’s a video game! But I won’t be taking them anywhere in March.

I’m really fascinated by what is going to happen at MSU this offseason. Every player has eligibility. They bring in a very good recruiting class. A recipe to be ranked really high. But they’re gonna get attrition somewhere as there’s gonna be a minutes crunch about everywhere on the roster except maybe at the 3?

Guard: Walker, Hoggard, Akins, Holloman, Fears
Wing: Hall, Brooks, Carr, Hauser, Normand
Big: Booker, Sissoko, Kohler, Cooper

Massive PG and Big log jam. I’m a seller on Booker but buyer on Carr relative to their rankings. I imagine for MSU if Holloman and Brooks are the only transfers they feel good, would be a bummer for us though. But Brooks is one of the only natural wings on the roster. If he goes though you just role out a lot of 3 gaurd looks and then Hall plays the rest of the time at the 4.

If I’m Sissoko I’m getting out of there. TBH if I’m Kohler I’m thinking about it but I doubt that happens.

I like Carr so I think he should play a lot next year but I’m not sure where he ends up playing the most. If Hauser and Hall are around that’s gonna be all the minutes at the 4 I’d think. Carr is probably better than any of their bigs but Booker is gonna have to play at least 20 minutes, plus there’s 3 other Centers.

Makes Izzo’s idea of not wanting to chase anyone away this year so staying away from the portal pretty funny. Who could he have chased away that isn’t an even bigger risk to transfer this offseason that is also making any kind of difference for the team? Is he expecting to be rewarded for that loyalty and have Pierre Brooks stick around for 5 MPG as a junior? Or that all his freshman are good with barely playing?

Pretty crazy. Hoping Walker goes pro, or Akins transfers.

You’ve set the table nicely.

My guess:

Hauser and Walker move on.

Hall back.

Over/under for transfers out from the Holloman/Akins/Brooks/Sissoko/Kohler group is 1.5. Lose at minimum one, max two.

Really promising year on paper but ends up being the year before the year. Hoggard/Akins*/Hall/Booker/Sissoko with the freshman class making up most of the bench rotation plus a backup big. Team’s good but not as good as it will be once Hoggard leaves if they can retain the same core with sophomore Fears and senior Akins*

That all makes sense. My only hope is that Booker and Fears move on quickly before they’re really good college players ala Christie/Houstan/Jett so that The Year never quite materializes

I assume Izzo isn’t portaling no matter what right? Even if like Brooks/Sissoko/Hauser/Walker all leave? That’d be 9 scholarships again
