Big Ten Basketball 2022-23 Discussion

The twill defense on Gillis definitely isn’t working.

There were some good times in that decade. I think my last game was in 05 after the Illinois loss when they were #1. I got hammered at the Arena bar and gave the rest of my season tickets to a bum, I think he was a bum. I don’t really remember, but the next morning I was driving back to GR pretty happy I didn’t have to go to anymore games that year. I think there was only 4 or 5 games left, anyway, Dee Brown was my breaking point after witnessing a lot, A LOT, of bad basketball.

PSU just giving Henn the green light now it seems. Like finding $20 in a pair of pants in the bottom of your drawer.

Def agree with your point here - just would clarify I don’t think Jett or Kobe are selfish at all. Maybe “stupid” in the sense that Jett does a lot of things that make no sense defensively but even that’s not a term I would use.

In general Michigan just does a lot of questionable individual things that could fall in the “poorly coached” category or just “dumb” or “selfish” that Purdue doesn’t deal with that go beyond shot selection. TWill insisting he’s our crunchtime FT shooter, pretty much all of Dug’s disaster moments, Jett’s inability to ever box out or know if they’re in zone or man, Hunter’s personality (lol) are all things that make Michigan a way less cohesive unit than Purdue that have nothing to do with being asked to do more than they’re capable of, except maybe Dug’s mistakes fall into that category. But I think if Dug was Purdue’s PG next to Loyer and Edey he’d still do some absurd things that make no sense because he’s Dug McDaniel.

The selfish stuff I was referring to with Illinois is essentially any shot Coleman Hawkins takes and all the ridiculous heat check threes Mayer/TSJ attempt constantly followed by whining and pointing fingers when someone else takes a bad shot.

Oh for sure some good times and players I really liked. It was just miserable missing the tourney for a decade.

i was at the game, but he’d shattered it in warmups and we weren’t there yet. but he had a big bandage on his shoulder, and the next morning my dad read the paper and told me why he’d had a bandage on. this story would happen differently in about six ways today

Well Mason Gillis showing that sometimes when you dare a guy to beat you, he does.

Mason Gillis 7/10 from three

“Ok he can’t shoot SEVENTY THREE PERCENT from three…”

So PSU with the same gameplan they had for us? Its just not working because Purdue is making everything.

At the end of this game Mason Gillis is going to remove a mask and reveal Payton Sandfort

Well that escalated quickly.

Hey PSU getting beat down by Purdue 59-35 with 11 + minutes to go. :grinning:

Sending everyone at the big man does not work if the other team makes their open threes.

Penn State is also not quite the same team if it shoots 25% from three

Michigan lulled them into a false sense of security. They thought that defensive strategy would work with any team with a big man.

Also, they are on the road against the No. 1 team in the country

I don’t think “the strategy” is working any worse per se

Henn is oddly effective, but Purdue doesn’t ALSO let Pickett go for 26 and Lundy/Funk knock down 8 threes because Purdue is way better than us

M guards and wings make your 3pt shots and HD make your layups.

Funk missing open threes tends to be the difference between PSU being beatable or not. He missed em in Ann Arbor, missed em tonight, made em when UM played there.
