Would be interesting to see kenpom rankings versus efficiency. Would probably highlight who’s being propped up by an easier schedule or where there are outliers (like OSU).
This is just in conference games, so it is not going to really compare or correlate to KenPom. Obviously will be some similarities because Purdue is the best team all year as in Big Ten games, but just measuring something different.
Well, sure. That makes sense. But we are up to 9-10 games in conference so that’s a fair amount of data. It may also show who’s trending up or down based on conference play.
Also worth looking at Torvik’s adjusted conf-only numbers, but I think these tend to get a bit noisy.
Similar trends though.
Interesting to see Illinois below OSU on that chart. Makes me happy to see Wisconsin down by Nebraska. Though Wisconsin still has a chance to make the dance…if only we had their ability to win a few close games.
Just boggles my mind that Wisconsin basically had Kansas beat.
OSU has played the toughest schedule in the Big Ten (followed by Nebraska, Rutgers and Minnesota), so the adjustment does a lot.
Illinois B10 SOS is even easier than Michigan (13th vs 12th).
This broadcast should be terrible. Kugler not in Happy Valley but Morris is
Big congrats to Izzo for being two inches taller than Purdue’s scorer’s table.
Edey is almost unfair. Props to him and the Purdue staff for developing him.
State of Michigan showing out today.
Iowa up 68-66 8+ mins left
C’mon Rutgers! There shall be no Fran happiness!
Stock up: Indiana, Illinois, Northwestern
Stock down: Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio State
I feel like there are quite a few teams that could play the way out of the NCAA Tourney at this point. Should be interesting.
At the midpoint of the conference season - without even knowing precisely of the fancystats or upcoming schedule - I’d say Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, Rutgers, Northwestern, Penn State, Maryland, and Michigan State will make the tournament. Maybe Iowa. I think that MSU gets a huge benefit of the doubt that other teams don’t get, but I think they make it.
One of the things to consider is how teams that are no longer in contention play down the stretch. Does, say, Ohio State mail it in against someone like Northwestern if OSU’s out and NW is fighting to get on the right side of the bubble.
Purdue, Indiana, Illinois and Rutgers are locks I think. They are the top four in the league IMO.
Iowa is going to be in and is right behind them.
Northwestern, PSU, Maryland and MSU are the next group. I don’t think they all get in.
Wisconsin, Michigan, OSU are out IMO.
Dylan- this probably isn’t the thread for it but could you do a write up about state of the program and where it needs to go in the off season? At this point it feels like we’re watching the games to see how Dug and Kobe progress in anticipation of next year.
I am sure Dylan doesn’t want to write that piece yet…long off season for that.
But in general you’re right. Maybe Yoyo gets healthy and earns some late season minutes to learn on the job.
Yeah, probably in some form or fashion. Not sure that’s really what to write in February, but maybe pick it into pieces or something.
Feels more like something published the day after the season ends
