Nebraska in a struggle. Dylan’s hot take could take a big hit on opening night
AJ Hoggard reminded me of when Rocket Watts looked good. Gotta see him do it consistently.
If you’re just looking at four factors, the thing that pops is they had way too many turnovers and aside from that I’m not sure I have a lot to add bc they were sprinkled in by everybody. Felt like a classic early season Playing The Weird Guys loss imo.
That said, they ran WAY too much stuff for Gabe Brown and I don’t get most of that. He’s a finisher not a creator.
MSU always turns the ball over a good amount. They have finished top 100 in turnover rate once since 2001 IIRC
Me neither and I used to love College Football. I just can’t stand the playoffs and the inevitable games between Alabama, Clemson, OSU, plus 1. It is nauseating.
Who did MSU play that isn’t going to play? They basically played 9 guys and Akins played more because TW had 2 fouls in the 1st half.
Read some other comments and yeah agreed w the takes that are a) anti-Hoggard on O and b) pretty unimpressed w the State D. I think Bingham in drop coverage would give them a really nice answer at the rim but that’s not their MO. Dude is just super long.
But if they can’t funnel to a rim protector I’m not sure what they can do on the perimeter w those guys. Brown is not great at communicating or sliding his feet, Hauser is slow, Christie you were always hoping would be functional. Hoggard and Walker have potential but that’s a lot of holes to plug and the guys you might like there both play the same position.
Still expect them to figure it out by conference play but they showed less ceiling than I anticipated.
Don’t think it was anybody I wasn’t expecting to see, just a classic Izzo “we’re playing everybody, let’s see how it works” early season game.
Everybody that had Hoggard and Marble as State’s top two scorers, take a bow. 12-17 from field combined.
I like Robbie Hummel as a broadcaster. I really like him as a broadcaster when he talks about how much he likes Michigan during an Illinois broadcast.
McGowens (Bryce) and Verge with 45 points combined and Nebraska is losing to Western Illinois with 5 minutes to go
They’ve allowed 17 offensive rebounds.
If you are an MSU fan and trying to find positives, you probably point to the missed FTs as an easy fix that would have kept it close and then figure you can cut down on turnovers a little and you’re in that game. It was clunky and the problems from last year still exist, but it wasn’t a tire fire.
It does show that counting on Walker and Christie to be the saviors is a big ask early. If the holdovers like Brown and Hauser are just guys, then Christie needs to replace Aaron Henry and then some.
I think they will be better this year, but mostly because I think there’s upside from the new guys that they will figure out in time.
Felt kind of like exactly what I would expect from their rotation if you gave a few Akins minutes to Walker.
Got more of a play everyone vibe from Kansas.
yeah it felt like Kansas won without really breaking a sweat. maybe that says more about Kansas than MSU, we’ll see
Yeah, not sure how to take that. Was that just a good gameplan by Kansas to funnel everything to them?
I’d have to go back and watch closer, but the box score would imply that Kansas did a really good job staying home in help on shooters which is why guys like Christie, Hauser, Brown had quiet nights. Hoggard and the bigs basically just went 1v1 on an island.
Nebraska goes down. Yikes.
should of known hoiberg was going fail there when i listened to an interview before his first year where he said, “no one wanted the transfers when i was at isu, now everyone does”
