Why does Katz hate Minnesota and Penn State?
Painter has lost his mind
Not looking great for BQ’s Trevion love
Just a ridiculously too cute move by Painter unless Zach Edey is Yao Ming without injury concerns this year or Caleb Furst is who Evan Smotrycz thought he was
Am I crazy for not hating it? Furst is legit. And the fact that Painter who is very smart is starting him is making me want to buy every share of his
One of my podcast hot takes is heating up REAL early.
How is Furst’s mobility/athleticism? Is this just another Joey Hauser at the 4 situation where he’s a plus offensively and a negative defensively trying to defend on the perimeter?
Hmm I’ve never seen Dylan and Painter in the same room before…….
Isaiah Thompson over senior Eric Hunter or Brandon Newman is also weird, but not as weird as flat out bringing a consensus top 10 player in the country who came back for his senior year amidst a pandemic after an all-conference season off the bench. And I do think it could make some basketball sense especially because Edey looks legit. But it’s still something I will make jokes about all year unless Painter makes a final four.
I’d also like to go on record with my somewhat baseless prediction that this Purdue team’s chemistry is going to stink. Way too many mouths to feed. Is this Ivey’s team? Is it 6th man Trevion’s? Is it Edey’s now?
That I can see. Trevion and Edey are gonna have to be big time team players.
He’s significantly more athletic than Hauser. At least vertically
Honestly, I think it’s good for Purdue to have some of this stuff. Gives me more hope that they’ll be improved over last years team.
I haven’t seen a lot of him, but isn’t he more of a traditional post-4? I know he can shoot a little bit, but he strikes me a lot more as a big than a wing. How’s his quickness/lateral mobility? Vertical athleticism won’t help him much for defending on the perimeter. Although I guess if Edey is behind you it alleviates some of that concern.
Way too many mouths to feed but that’s based upon actual game experience returning which is a very good thing to have. Painter isn’t a stranger to larger rotations he had a 9 man rotation last year, you can throw in a 10th guy who played in 23 games and played around 9 mpg. I am not sure how much run he will get this year (Morton). Furst is probably the only incoming recruit that’s going to get time. I think it only gets interesting when Gillis comes back after his suspension.Gillis can do different things like hit the outside shot, rebound, also finish inside. They can probably go 9 deep without Morton but can match up any way they want to.
Williams 22 mpg
Edey 24 mpg
Ivey 32 mpg
Stefanovic 22 mpg
Thompson 15 mpg
Hunter 28 mpg
Furst 13 mpg
Gillis 18 mpg
Newman 26 mpg
There might be some overlap of Edey/Williams 20mpg but both of them can commit fouls in a bunch. The upside is that in competitive game Edey/Williams 1 of them is pretty much to be guaranteed to be on the court. I like both guys but Williams needs to finish more inside to get that extra PT. Edey was up close to 60% from the floor, Williams only 52%. The only reason I think a 10 man rotation is in their best interests is 4 guys in their rotation all hit over 35% behind the arc. Excited to see if Ivy improves his outside shooting because if he can it’s probably the favorite in the conference.
I like that on paper, but I’d feel better about it actually happening if the guys with the 8th and 9th highest minute totals weren’t in the starting lineup. Just odd.
Edey has the potential to be absolutely dominant on both ends at times. He was really impressive for Canada this summer. I’m not quite willing to buy it in NCAA til I see it on the court, but it might happen.
Williams is a known entity that is good but not great despite his gargantuan usage rate and counting numbers.
This does feel like a gamble on getting to a higher ceiling for that team. Emphasis on the word gamble. It’s a risk. You’d better keep Williams happy somehow.
I get that this is something you want but—especially since he’s gone next year anyway—or what? He gets upset and plays worse? Seems conceivable but not likely, and bedsides, if you think Edey makes you better, you start him.
In a couple weeks Edey is putting Armando Bacot in a body bag.
