Big Ten Basketball 2021-22 Discussion

More amazing is that this was all sorted out in a short time before the season. Unlike…say…a coach on a wiretap admitting to paying players illegally TWO YEARS AGO who is still employed and has faced no punishment.

Big difference between a school self-reporting something like this and a long drawn out contested battle over allegations.

Uh, sure. Or the poor kid sold some stuff thinking he was going pro or NIL was intact and now has to sit out 3 games. If you really don’t believe the NCAA is draconian…well, I don’t know.

I’m not saying there shouldn’t be rules to follow, but I also think that the way the NCAA uses and treats these kids is ridiculous.

Yeah… pretty bad look when Cockburn is getting more games than Mark Few. Different groups are handing out the punishments, sure, but that illuminates a pretty blatant flaw in the system that doesn’t come close to passing the common sense test.

Mark Few getting suspended for a game makes Gonzaga look bad, though, not the NCAA.

I also think the Cockburn thing is more nuanced than maybe meets the eye (he didn’t just decide to pull out of the draft, he decided to go back to Illinois after an interesting transfer recruit) and he didn’t send some cameos (now legal) but he sold gear (which I don’t think is legal for active players still, at least Players Trunk doesn’t list any that I can see).

I was going for more of a societal angle not necessarily directly related to Cockburn, but I can refrain from the matter if we would prefer to keep that stuff to other boards. I don’t think it’s some injustice that Cockburn got 3 games though. That seems fine based on what he did. I’m interested to see what Jalen Wilson gets from Kansas and will have many a hot takes related to him and Few on Reddit I’m sure.

Societally, Few getting 1 game isn’t enough IMO. This article says Morningstar got a semester for a DUI at Kansas recently.

Sorry Dylan, but I might have to unsubscribe for you not snatching the pun opportunity.

There’s a lot to like about Coleman-Lands’ game. He’s a pure shooter. He has good size and athleticism. And, at age 26, he’s mature and has played a lot of college basketball.

Seeing this is writing is hilarious to me… playing college basketball at 26!!!

I don’t remember the Morningstar incident. Interesting to see what he does with Wilson, who’s a much more important player and it has been 12 years and I don’t know that Bill Self is as disciplined these days. Though Wilson isn’t even if legal age.

I am going to guess he gets a lower number…maybe 3-5.

Morningstar was an upperclassman returning starter though, although I guess it wasn’t that recent either.

Ron Harper Jr #7!!!

Rutgers with 2 top 10 guys, imagine if Myles Johnson stuck around…

Katz has a huge love affair with Rutgers. One of the best examples would be him doing commentary for Michigan-Rutgers at MSG. He sounded like such a giddy school girl when Rutgers was putting runs together.

So no Houstan, Donta Scott, Jones, Murray, Nance. Yeesh. What would it take for Katz to put a freshman on this list? I have to think this must be doing a top 20 returning players list or something cause I don’t see how Houstan couldn’t be top 20.

I swear I missed the part of this where the Monty Python crew runs amok across the screen quipping “And Now for Something Completely Different” before each new Katz pick.

I think we could put together 2 groups of starting 5 beating Katz top 13 of the conference.

I don’t get it either.

At the end of the Ron Harper video he says it’s a returning players list. I don’t know if he has mentioned that previously or not.
