Izzo loves to dump all over his own players, but under-rank his team by 1 slot in a preseason poll and then it’s allllllll about the Disrespekt
No one plays the “we get no respect” card to fire up his team more than Izzo. It’s like MSU can’t play up to their potential unless they have a (perceived) chip on their shoulder.
Starting yesterday, noted Greg Gard bootlicker Andy Katz is putting out a top-20 Big Ten hooper list. Will be interesting to see how it matches up to Dylan’s/ITH’s top-25 list.
- #20 - Gabe Brown
- #19 - Fatts Russell
That’s Mr. Andy “Geo Baker is a top 10 returning player in the country” Katz to you
Looking forward to the list for the lulz
Wow…that’s…something.
Though I wanted to sanity check those a bit. If you have any faith in the post-season all-conference teams, the #16-20 guys would be those who got honorable mention last year. Who was that?
Trent Frazier
Jordan Bohannon
Eric Ayala
Aaron Wiggins
Geo Baker
All things considered…maybe Brown and Russell aren’t that far from those names.
All-America honorable mention, that’s pretty good. Good call, Andy.
What’s that you say? That’s All-Conference honorable mention? Oh.
I’ll try and update it each day. I came across it in my Instagram feed via the BTN page. Not sure if it’s being posted on the BTN website or other social media sites.
Also Mr. Andy “mercilessly slam a 20 year old dude on national television because he transferred out of your buddy’s program for mental health reasons” Katz. Seriously, f*** him. I hated that so much.
EAST LANSING, Mich. — Tom Izzo spoke for around 65 minutes Wednesday afternoon, the first 35 or so uninterrupted, there to preview the team he has coming back. It’s nice to see some things getting back to normal.
“Kinda probably went longer than I should’ve on all of it,” Izzo said as he wrapped up his opening statement.
We’ll take it. After a year in which his team was confined to Zoom interviews, Michigan State’s local media day was a welcomed sight. Izzo went in-depth on each player, the changes around his program and a summer he said was the best his program has had in 10 years.
Juwan Howard’s opening statement was essentially “wow it has been a long time, thankful everyone is safe, any questions?” … Izzo gave a 35 minute opening statement. Funny how different the two coaches handle the media.
I had forgotten that Mel signed a couple kids up to be walk ons on Izzo’s team. Too funny. I’m sure they’ll be great contributors
I enjoy his film breakdowns and written work generally but yes, he doesn’t attempt to hide that he’s not objective when it comes to MSU. Will be interesting to see if that changes at all as his site grows. I like to think I attempt to bring a little more objectivity to our collabs over there but realistically anytime anyone tries to say something skeptical about Kobe Bufkin I start screaming and throw my phone.
My fandom is in a weird place because MSU content people keep approaching me for MSU content gigs and my first reaction is always “you know I’m a Michigan fan right?” and then it just results in me doing the jobs anyway and everybody being more confused. As long as it’s big ten basketball related though I can’t say no
Chase Audige #18 for Mr Katz. The list gets better… right???
Oh dear lord. I shouldn’t be surprised but somehow I am
I’m surprised to learn Chase was almost a 37% three point shooter.
I mean there are 17 players left to name and I could make a case for 3-4 Michigan guys, 2-3 Purdue guys, 2-3 Illinois guys, 2 OSU guys, that would leave room for 5 other guys. Those 5 could be Christie/Murray/Pickett/TJD, i am sure I am missing another Maryland guy like Scott. I know lists are difficult but dear god this top 20 has the makings of a lot of laughs.
Gotta get that engagement from every fan base.
