I will be honest and admit I don’t want it in Indianapolis because I don’t want Indiana to get weird home postseason games every year. and another thing, I’m not mad about this year’s BTT, please don’t print it in the newspaper that I’m mad about this year’s BTT
You are right it could not be at the Deltaplex! I suppose they can configure Van Andel as a basketball arena. Have the had the Globetrotters there? How many would it even seat for basketball?
The Pistons G league used to play in GR. The Nuggets affiliate currently does. I think they always played in the Deltaplex though
They do play at the Deltaplex but it’s fine for the G-League but for B1G tournament, not suitable at all.
I wouldn’t guess either are big enough, not that the B1G would put the tournament there. I like GR though. It has really grown the past 10-12 years.
Van Andel is plenty big enough. GR have hosted Frozen Four in the past.
11,500 for basketball.
still too big
Congrats Brad
Indy being mentioned as better than Chicago is a super hot take.
It’s called the West Loop yall. Some of the best restaurants in the country and a great bar scene. Walk a half mile from United center.
I love the idea of Grand Rapids, but even if 11,500 for basketball were enough, I think downtown hotel space would be an issue.
Also, if I remember correctly, about 20 years ago Indy made a big concerted effort to host as much amateur sports as possible to boost their economy. Lured the NCAA HQ to boot (I think).
A lot of what gets the cities to host these events comes down to the host city putting together a venue/hotel package that makes it attractive to the organization that is coming in.
he is celebrating with a few renditions of Varsity
Not saying that Indy is better than Chicago. Saying that Indy is a better city to host the Big Ten Tournament than Chicago.
Indy’s downtown is admittedly super well set up for this. The logistics are great. No doubt the food is mediocre comparatively, and the bars generic, but these are mainstream kind of events. There are legitimately lots of people who attend who probably can’t really walk a half a mile.
The entire premise of hosting one of these events has to do with where hotels are located, where bars are located and where the game is located.
I went to the BTT in Chicago I think 4 years ago that coincided with St. Patrick’s weekend. Thought it was a great time. Traveling was a bit of a pain but still. There was a bar in North Side Chicago called the “Bullpen” or the The Pen or something. Owner was an Indiana alum. Was packed one of the nights of the B10 tourney. They also have a batting cage that throws 90+ mph pitches you can step in and hit while drunk so yeah good times
I would be shocked if that’s not Sluggers.
And yeah, that’s the crux of my argument. Let Chicago work for you, you’ll have a killer time and you won’t remember the time you spent in transit. Or the name of the bar.
Yup Hoxton perfectly located if you can swing it. Then let Randolph and Fulton Market work their magic. Could spend weeks there eating.

Good 3 and D wing at the Horizon League level. Skeptical that he’s B10 quality
Trying to rekindle the Bryn Forbes magic.
When you can get a Horizon player with a sub 18 USG you have to do it
