Yeah I think we’re prob on the same page then. I think if you had 5 guys about as good as him at each position, you’d have an NIT team. So if he’s your 4th best player, you’re prob fine. If he’s 2nd, things are looking dicey. Which I guess means how into Ayala I am depends on who’s coming back and how many slots for transfers we have.
Bingham would be nice to have for a big. He’s mobile, can protect rim and flashes as a stretch 5. I think Izzo is holding him back as an offensive player IMO.
Eh. Still only three top 50 Kenpom teams in 12 years at Seton Hall. That’s a really bad hit rate for a pretty mediocre goal.
I just see it extremely hard to take a view that he didn’t do a very good job. 6 out of his last seven years they made the tourney. At seton hall.
What’s your feelings on Tommy Amaker?
The job he did at hall or in general?
I’m basically getting at that their success was not radically different back when Seton Hall was a harder job (Amaker even had a sweet 16!), so that might be telling how a similar coach would do as they move up to higher-level college hoops
Over on 247 DOT is says he’s heard that Gabe Brown is gone for MSU (no word on whether that’s pro or a transfer), but he hasn’t heard on Hauser or Bingham. Also said Christie has really enjoyed Izzo/MSU so far so his pro decision will all come down to where he projects in the draft.
Also a couple reports are coming out that MSU is targeting WVU transfer Jalen Bridges (SO with 3 years left because of the COVID year). He’s a 6’7 stretch 4 who can was hyper efficient last year on a miniscule USG (130 ORTG on 13 USG in 43% of MIN), who was still efficient but less so with an uptick in USG and MIN% this year (118 ORTG on 15 USG in 67% of MIN).
His shooting numbers dropped around 8/9% this year, more notably his 3P shooting (41% to 32%). He’s a good OREB though so if he can get his shooting numbers back than he could be a good pickup for them.
I would welcome Gabe Brown with open arms if he wants to come here
No way is Christie leaving this year.
MSU would be so much better off with less bodies. Tom’s rotations are pretty mind boggling at times so the more attrition and less additions are honestly probably better for them. If Christie stays, they are set at 1-3 and Hall could be pretty good.
Tom is gonna load up with like 4 Julius Marbles in the portal so he can play them all 8 minutes each though.
I don’t really know why we’re acting like Seton Hall isn’t a major conference team with a solid (unspectacular, but not Northwestern) history. Sure, making the tournament most recent years is fine. Having an actual good team only three of his twelve years isn’t great. He’s not a bad coach. Just seems like Maryland could do better.
Any coach that is capable of competing at the top of the big ten and consistently have teams capable of making deep tournament runs, would, at the very least, finish top 3 every year in the Big East at Seton Hall. Villanova is currently the only program in the Big East that such a coach wouldn’t overtake within 2-3 years on the job.
Yeah, he would start at the 2 right away and get 28 minutes consistently. He’d be an upgrade as a wing defender. And who knows what he looks like when he’s out of Izzo’s doghouse. Maybe some of that erratic inconsistent play goes away.
My guess is that he goes pro or transfers far away from Izzo.
Not sure where to put this but Dot just more than insinuated Saddi is going to WMU. Which is odd just cause he turned them down like 2 years ago.
Maybe they’ve finally decided to pay up? Or Saddi’s sick of waiting and has a two-year plan or something?
Well, it may be that no greater opportunity opened in the past two years and now it’s the “right time.”
Probably right
Yeah but their budget was a mess 2 years ago and they had a low-ball offer. Wouldn’t surprise me if they are stepping up now.
Great for Saddi! Happy for him if that’s the case!
Yep, they were able to save up their piggy bank by intentionally hiring a guy they knew would fail for nothing. WMU’s a tough job, but if anyone can make it work, it’s Saddi. It’ll be interesting, because he’ll basically have to destroy Oakland as a program to succeed there IMO.
