He’s very good at winning big ten games, it does seem clear
He also was on the hot seat last year when players were leaving and calling for meetings with him to tell him how much they hated the way he was running the team.
Objectively best coach in the country?
My hottake-y hottake is that everyone in the B1G except Purdue and Wisconsin is worse this year than last, and last year … yeah, we remember how that worked out in the tourney. Purdue is extremely untrustworthy and Wisconsin is the embodiment of pure, unadulterated evil, so no one escapes the first weekend. QED.
I can buy into this. And I know it’s been stated and I agree that part of the Purdue issue is they were overrated to begin with this year in large part due to a hot streak against a very weak schedule last year. That got them talked about as “one of the best teams in the country” when “one of the top tier B1G teams” was probably more realistic.
No B1G teams in the Kenpom top 12. So the best predictive metric is bearish on a Final Four appearance or even an Elite 8 one.
MSU might be better over the course of the year this year than over the course of the whole year last year, but I think that they’re about at the same spot *at this point of the season * as they were at this point last year. Other than that, yeah, no one’s better except Wisconsin and maybe Purdue, but I don’t trust anyone in the tournament.
Wow, just checked and Wisconsin was 14th in Kenpom last year. I just assumed they were really bad after UM boat raced them like I’ve never seen anyone boat raced before. (And they couldn’t beat UM at home after the COVID pause.)
I agreed with everyone who rated Illinois’ chances as the best, but after watching them not be able to guard us at all today, I’m not so sure. Maybe there simply isn’t one really good team in this conference.
Whoa, Maryland took OSU behind the woodshed. Didn’t see that coming - although late-season OSU usually puts up a few stinkers.
Pretty much down to UW/PU/Illinois for the title now.
Whoa Neb wins at PSU senior night by 23 pts?
I’d love to be a beneficiary of late season ohio state collapse.
After Indiana’s game against Minnesota, there are currently no teams allowing less than 1 PPP in conf play. Would be a first in the kenpom era.
Props to Matt for that one. Was pretty stunned that Torvik was propping a curl like that as some kind of masterpiece of offense. Can’t believe he’s such a shill. Kenneth better.
The old friend Matt who disliked everyone Beilein recruited?
In the flesh… err twitter
I know Bart through a case we worked on together, and he’s a very good guy with an excellent site, but as far as fandom goes, he’s a Wisconsin grad, and openly acknowledges that he’s a huge fan.
That’s kinda dope. I’m sure he’s a fine person, don’t mean to say otherwise. We’re all dumb fans at heart.
I’m sure all Wisconsin people are fine people
