Big Ten Basketball 2021-22 Discussion

Interesting find. Fran seems like the kind of guy that likes to complain about anything, but he is right here. Scheduling has to be quite the beast, but that seems like something that should be looked at/considered.

Hey @buckets12, how do we feel about Rutgers +3?

I’m on Rutgers big tonight, like them moneyline too. They’re too solid at home and Iowa has beaten essentially nobody unless you have a thing for home wins vs. Indiana

Yeah, I was surprised by the line.

Are you the real @buckets12?

I want to love Iowa so much and the Murray twins are so fun but last year has scarred me. I will never ever shake the memory of a really boring Oregon team beating them by 80 in the round of 32

Iowa playing outstanding D this half only given up 12 points with 6 minutes left in the half.

Bohannon and The Show on the court at the same time. I’m either dreaming or daydreaming.

Iowa and Rutgers comes down to the last play…with a terrible officiating call. Rutgers in the process of screwing up the final possession and ref bails them out with a super weak call with two seconds. Now up two, Iowa looking for the hail mary play…

Just a tough foul called on Murray with less than two seconds in regulation. Harper not aggressively driving to the basket, very little contact, arms up. Yeesh. I don’t know how that gets called.

That call is almost never made in the course of normal game play, let alone the last possession. Courtney Green must have had an early flight and wanted no part of OT. I’m sure Fran will handle it well.

John Clougherty came out of retirement.

No one enters Jersey Mike’s and leaves satisfied.

Far be it for me to sympathize w/Fran, but: How do you call that a foul at that point in the game with so little contact that far from the bucket?

I didn’t like that call in the least. I have found the officiating this year to be more poor than usual.

Bohanon is so bad now. Tonight 2-11 from the floor, 1 rebound and ZERO assists. In 29 minutes. It must be his stellar defense.

Raphael Davis-Didn’t look like a foul but that’s life on the road in the B1G…

Geez can we just stop with that and explaining away a bad call as saying the team was on the road.

Is it really possible that Indiana has the best defense in the league? I know there is noise in this data given opponent match-ups and home/road splits…but that stands out to see them in the same group with MSU, ILL, and Rutgers.

I’m also a little surprised Wisconsin’s defense is as mediocre as this chart shows - I’m still very skeptical of their record despite their obvious success. They beat Northwestern thanks to multiple banked in 3s and getting a Trohl Center whistle from the refs on the road.

SOS stuff is doing a lot in this data. MSU and UM have played really easy conference schedules… Wisconsin has played a really tough one.

Indiana’s defense is very good, though. Top 10 on KenPom I think.

I don’t remember Indiana being noteworthy on defense last year with mostly the same players. (Well…obviously Archie was there…) Curious to know what you’ve learned about their defensive style or approach that will make things difficult on Sunday. It feels like we neutralized TJD last year and he also struggled to defend Hunter - both keys to the respective teams. But I can’t remember much else about the matchups.
