Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 2)

Edey has been a monster. Williams has basically been sitting for the last 10 minutes with 4 fouls. No interest in bringing him back with Edey completely dominating the inside

Painter just reloading without anyone noticing. At least the Purdue fanbase acknowledges the coach they got.

A bit of bracket math…

I’m pretty sure a Purdue win over Indiana this weekend would lock them into the 4 seed which will be U-M’s quadrant of the bracket if Michigan wins one more game. Ohio State would be the five and have to play an extra game.

If Michigan sweeps Michigan State and Indiana beats Purdue, Indiana could still make the 8/9 game. Otherwise it is probably going to be Rutgers/Michigan State. (Although Minnesota looks like it still has a chance if it goes 2-0 against PSU and Rutgers.).

It was a helluva run. A sound beating regresses Michigan to the mean.

Anything particularly juicy?

I just started reading, but the stuff about the school is wild haha. I mean, we all knew the “school” was a sham, but there are 12 students enrolled in Ypsi Prep (aka the basketball team).

Wow, that family must really value education. He’s gonna spend at least three years at State pursuing his bachelor’s, plus at least two more for a graduate degree.

Of all the sources interviewed for this story, those existing in and out of the Bates camp, no one seems to believe Emoni will play at Michigan State. Instead, Bates most likely will wait for a professional contract, probably the most lucrative deal the G League can muster, and turn professional before heading to the NBA.
“As of now, everything still stands as it was,” he says, wearing a knowing smile. “Kids are kids, and kids make decisions all the time. Michigan State is still the place that he loves. They embraced him. They showed him love and they continue to show him love. They’ve always been good to him, so I don’t see a switch up or anything. Now, if things change, or some rules change, you know — who knows? Because Michigan State, that’s one dream. The NBA is another dream. I don’t know. At the end of the day, it’s Emoni’s decision on what he wants to do.”

MSU fans will take this in stride I’m sure

it’s really a fantastic article. Peak BQ profile

Yeah BQ is a really good storyteller in these long form articles. They take forever to read, but he gives a fascinating look into the full story

With that, Ypsi Prep was officially open for business. Nike stepped front and center as a sponsor, as did Gatorade and some Michigan businesses.

I’m sure Nike stepped up front and center out of the goodness of their hearts and a desire to educate the kids.

I know a teacher who had him a few years ago. She said he was a pretty serious student, not a dumb jock at all. It seems like the family’s priorities have changed a bit since then though.

Re Joe Lunardi having MSU in the NCAA tournament as the 2nd to last one in:

How can this be with MSU having an NCAA net rating of 71? Does this mean Lunardi assumes MSU will win at least one of the two games coming up vs Michigan?

NET rating is used more for evaluating the teams you play than evaluating your team. So MSU’s NCAA resume is helped a lot by the quality of wins it has against teams with good NET rankings.
