I prefer the composer’s witty rendition
Nice wordplay. I like what you did there.
Ok been debating this and don’t know if this is the right place to put it but mine as well. If UM wins out and wins the B10 tournament and Gonzaga does the same, what are the chances we get the No 1 overall seed? Eager to hear people’s thoughts, i’m torn.
Michigan gets the overall No. 1, and shouldn’t even been close. The number of quality wins would eclipse Gonzaga’s by a large margin.
Yep, Nebraska rocketed up to 122 in the NET so that game is now safely in the Q2 bucket. Michigan is now 13-1 in Q1/Q2 games, which is tied for the most victories with Illinois (13-6) and Alabama (13-5), and resulting in a far better winning percentage.
Honestly, for all the grief we give Nebrasketball… I’m pretty impressed that they’ve shown up to fight and steal some games under this condensed schedule.
Do you think the loss of Teddy Allen was “addition by subtraction?”
Let’s just win tonight and go from there.
from the results of one game, apparently it is.
Late to the party here - I didn’t watch the MSU/Illinois game, and hadn’t seen tape of Sissoko’s hit on Dosunmu. You don’t see many clearer examples of intent to injure than that - the kid and Izzo should feel great shame. Sissoko is young, so I imagine he will grow to regret what he did, Izzo is obviously beyond hope.
Yeah here’s what the resumes would theoretically look like:
Michigan:
Gonzaga:
3 more Q1 wins and 2 more Q2 wins versus not having a Q2 loss feels like an easy decision.
I think they should probably pass them even with another Q1 loss thrown in there.
It’s amazing how well Nebraska seems to have played (I didn’t watch the game) without their leading scorer. I know the kid has had some problems, kicked around a bit, even kicked off Wichita State’s team and sometimes one player can make a difference, and not in a good way. But I don’t know the whole story, so I probably shouldn’t speculate. He says he needs to rest and rehab to get ready for the next level.
In this scenario, Michigan probably should pass them but I don’t think they will. It’s hard to ignore the zero in the loss column. Plus as we have seen with Garza being anointed NPOY in November, Gonzaga has been the “best” team all year.
I also think the logistics of a B1G team being the 4th number 1 sees make it easier to leave Gonzaga at 1 rather than work around that issue. Though I guess if they meet in the Final Four it shouldn’t matter.
Just my opinion, but I don’t believe there was an intent to injure on the part of Sissoko or Izzo. Izzo clearly has coached his team to play more physical defense and muck up games. So to that end there is a correlation. But Sissoko looks to me like a pretty raw player who is still learning how to play at this level. The elbow to Dosunmu’s face is worthy of a Flagrant 2, maybe even a game or two suspension, but it looks to me like Sissoko playing out of control moreso than an action with intent.
Yeah it takes a lot for me to assume there was intent to injure. It was just way too hard of a foul but I don’t see how anyone can conclude there was definitely intent to injure. He meant to foul him, he did not mean to break his face
I don’t like assuming intent to injure basically ever. It’s just a bad game to play.
I just look and see how he extended his elbows in midair and I think he definitely intended to deliver a blow. Whether it was to hurt his face or simply to knock him out of the air, who knows. Flagrant 2 is defined as “excessive contact” which obviously implies some degree of intent to at least hit hard.
I don’t think that any drunk drivers have intention to cause injuries or death, but drunk driving should not be allowed. Regardless of his intention, such act has no place in basketball.
Wow do I have some strong feelings on any play in a basketball game being compared to drunk driving. I’m going to bow out of this one.
Agree. I think Hoiberg’s done some excellent coaching work over this last month.
