Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 2)

He just tweeted a video saying he’s back

I posted similar last week, but it’s always seemed delusional to me that so many Illinois fans think he’ll be back

-he wanted to leave last year
-he’s old for his grade
-Omar Payne has said he’s been told kofi is a goner

Five guard offense?

I think that Jess Settles must hold the record.

Hmm is this a Liddell hint? Brunk will never play otherwise

I think it’s an Efton Reid hint.

Also if Brunk actually plays competitive minutes for OSU RIP to any chance of their defense improving

So now that Illinois has the Utah transfer, Curbelo, and Frazier coming back I am curious what people think about their rotation. All three of those guys are good enough to start and probably expect to. Yet I have never seen a P5 team start three guys 6-1 or shorter.

Will the Utah guy come in after and all conference season and come off the bench? Will they all just play about 28 minutes and cover the 80 guard minutes?

Maybe they’re just going the Dee Brown, Deron Williams, Luther Head route again? Except two of those guys were 6’3” and they were a lot better at basketball

I would guess they cover all 80 minutes and maybe a couple minutes altogether?

Why is everyone referring to Plummer as an All-Conference guy? He’s basically just a 6-1 shooter who I would think would be a 6th man.

Weingarten Effect!

They started Ayo, Frazier and Miller last year, who went 6’2, 6’3 and 6’5. When Ayo was on the bench for Curbelo I’d bet they played a lot of lineups of Curbelo, Frazier and Miller which is the same except replace 6’5 with 6’1. I mean they even started 6’3 Damonte Williams at the 4 for parts of the year as well.

Obviously playing 3 guys 6’2 or shorter isn’t great, but I don’t think Illinois has any proven wings to play. They have Grandison who’s 6’6 and Illinois fans seem high on 6’6 Austin Hutcherson (a D3 transfer who has missed the last two seasons due to a transfer sit out and back injury). But even with all that they still have no size.

I think Underwood has shown he’s willing to commit to a smaller, perimeter based lineup if he thinks those are his best players. So if he thinks Plummer is good enough, I think there’s a real chance they start 3 dudes 6’2 or shorter.

I apologize…I swear I read that he was all conference. I just did some digging to educate myself and it seems like he is a good, if streaky shooter that is PG sized but had only 25 assists last year. More interesting is that it gives ILL two guards from Puerto Rico.

Like Dylan said…perfect backup guard.

Weingarten’s bizarre wording of “All-Pac 12 prospect” to go along with making up the over 15.5 ppg stat caused confusion.

When I saw Jake’s tweet I too assumed that he was All-Pac 12. Jake’s wording when he tweets about guys is really something. Every recruit is a five star and every transfer is all conference

Never let facts get in the way of a good tweet!

He’s gotta get on the good side of every player to get info out of them.
