Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 2)

projection is 7th with, 19th without per RosterCast

The thought of Trevion leaving for the draft has never once crossed my mind, even just as a test the waters and get feedback kind of guy. Obviously it makes a ton of sense to do that, but I will say Trevion probably does firmly fall into the category of guys who will probably never be of NBA interest. I definitely expect him to come back but he could be a guy who decides to just go start making money

The biggest issue with Henry is that the shooting part of the equation is severely lacking.

I don’t understand how these numbers translate to the NBA

They don’t. But if he had great shooting numbers with his package of size and athleticism he’d be in the 6-10 range. A few teams will look at him and think they can teach him to shoot and think they can get a starting wing in the early second round. I won’t be mad if the Pistons take him.

Is this Illinois’ 4th or 5th banner of the year?

I was gonna say. I feel like a ton of that is other fanbases

I think they look at his physical attributes, contextualize that Henry played in a nightmare offense this year where probably a good number of those shots were coming off his own creation (something he will not be asked to do in the NBA) and see a reasonable shot that he can defend like a demon and make some catch & shoot threes.

In the late first round, nobody is taking a guy they see as a sure-fire rotation player, they’re looking for moldable clay. I think Henry fits that bill.

Exactly. He’s not there yet so when I originally posted about it my emphasis was on patience. He’s going to need some time and refined coaching. He’s probably a guy that would be much better off with a specific, focused role off the bench rather than being asked to carry the team for long stretches.

He may never work out…but I think he has a shot.

Yeah, and in his favor, nobody takes late first/early second round picks with the expectation they will EVER carry the team, much less early on.

91% of his threes were assisted this year.

And he still had mediocre shooting on very low volume his first two years when he was playing with Cassius Winston.

He’ll be drafted with the hope the shot develops, but really the fact it hasn’t developed at all does not inspire much confidence in it doing so.

Henry’s combination of size, playmaking and defense are super intriguing, even without a shot.

All that tells us is he didn’t make off the dribble 3’s, which he won’t be expected to do in the NBA. What teams will really care about is his catch and shoot percentage.

I agree that his lack of a shot doesn’t bode well for his chances of developing, but if you’re an NBA team in the late 1st/early 2nd, who is out there that’s going to be more intriguing as someone who could develop into a legit 3 and D wing?

I think he has a good shot if he can develop a better shot.

When you’re talking picks in the backend of the 1st to the 2nd round you’re talking players with flaws. Teams picking there would be happy to get a rotation piece. Henry with his defense and size are a decent shot away from being a rotation piece. There’s really not that much projection. If he can hit 33% of his 3s he can play in the NBA, if he never does that, then well he will be a GLeague guy. To me he’s a perfect guy to target in that range.
