Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 2)

I’m still amazed what’s happening there…Underwood obviously had them motivated and playing well, save the one game against Illinois. The mass exodus is weird to me.

Yeah not sure how realistic that is, I feel like we heard the same from them last off-season with regards to Alan Griffin which never materialized. Not really sure what would have changed between his transfer declaration and now to bring him back, especially if the rumors about his mom and Underwood not meshing are true. But weirder things have happened I guess.

If he doesn’t come back and Kofi leaves though, man Illinois is looking rough next year. Losing Ayo, Frazier, Kofi, Giorgi and Miller with no major adds to this point. The best case starting lineup for that team would be Curbelo, Grandison, Williams, Hawkins? and Payne. Is that even a tourney team?

Not even close according to RosterCast. 86th without Kofi.

On the flipside they are 14th with Kofi + TyTy.

I feel like Miller is really the only surprising loss there

I guess it’s that they’ve brought in good talent for three years and seem to be striking out all over after they actually succeed.

Giorgi is something of a surprise, right?

HA! I’m super late to this but the UMHoops/Dark Souls section of the Venn diagram was so small I never thought I’d see it. Way to go, you made my day.

Izzo is probably too short for the comparison to work though huh?

Izzo, Lord of Weird Guys

Didn’t he just declare for the draft like 2 days ago?

Illini fans keep saying he wants to come back so he can be a 2,000 point scorer… he’s going to start averaging like 17+ per game over more than 30 games to get there? He’s 566 points away.

NBA must have told him “nah” within that 48 hours.

According to an Illini on Reddit:

“Yo never post Kedrick Price on here, straight up. Dude is a weird super fan with flimsy credentials. Even if the info is correct, it’s not right for this sub”

He seems like the type of guy who would hold up a piece of paper that says “2,000 point scorer” after finishing his career about 400 points off from the milestone.

Aaron Henry declares for the NBA Draft.

As well he should. Good for him.

I know that hiring an agent does not preclude a return to college by NCAA rule, but mentioning the agent in the announcement does seem to correlate with staying firmly in the draft.

Playing around with MSU on RosterCast and it’s interesting, though not necessarily surprising, how much Bart’s numbers hate the incumbent MSU point guards.

Remove Hoggard, Loyer, and Walker one at a time and nothing changes. #11 overall. Remove all three and they are still #15. No matter who you take out the starting PG gets about 75% of minutes and an ORtg between 100-107, even when you chop out all three and leave only Akins.

Meanwhile there are a bunch of teams where excising a 75% PG sees the projection plummet by 50+ spots.

Correct – I don’t think he’s testing the waters.

He has good size (and wingspan) for an NBA Shooting Guard. I’m curious to see how he looks with more space to work with.

I always thought Henry was a bit over-rated as one of those guys who’s an excellent complimentary piece but has a defined ceiling. Yet I always respected his game and the way he plays. I think he has a chance to be a 3-and-D guy in the NBA if someone gives him a shot and has some patience. Unlike some Spartans who I haven’t liked at all, he was easy to root for. Good luck to him!
