I am now of the opinion that Beilein shouldn’t take the job, lol. If he’s just gonna be hated by the fanbase as he comes in, that’s not a recipe for success
This is what I’ve been saying… It’s a bad fit. They are not going to be patient enough for the Beilein experience.
Yea I think everyone knew the BTT was being played for TV money.
Some just questioned whether that was worth risking a Covid outbreak that would torpedo teams NCAA chances.
What’s the reason Indiana fans don’t want him? Just his age? Because he’d be the best coach they’ve had in a really long time
All of this reminds me of Springsteen’s “Glory Days”.
“And I hope when I get old I don’t sit around thinking about it, but I probably will. Yeah, just sitting back trying to recapture a little of the glory yeah…”
(cue slow-mo montage of Bobby Knight throwing chairs in the background)
I’m not following either. Sure Stevens is the pipe dream but how does that invalidate Beilein’s resume?
I think it’s because they’ve convinced themselves that they should be able to easily land Beard or Drew at the very least if not Stevens.
Lol they need a reality check
You’d at least think they’d be like, “We’re a better job than Michigan and he won there, so he’ll do fine here.”
I’d have to go with age, but let’s say Beilein has four years to work with (72 at end of contract), even if he retired, I could almost guarantee the cupboard will be more full than Archie is leaving it. Acquiring a home-run hire for the next 20 years just isn’t that common, even with bottomless pocketbooks.
It makes too much sense for a rabid fan base.
Indiana MBB fans are similar to Michigan FB fans. Their glory days appeared to be behind them and the current state of program aren’t good yet the expectations are sky high. They’ll turn their nose up on any coaches that don’t meet their standards (like Matt Campbell for Michigan or JB for Indiana).
Indiana won the Big Ten five years ago… why are their glory days over? I don’t really understand that. Archie obviously was/is a bad coach but people keep referring to it as this job that is somehow flawed.
JB is way more accomplished than Matt Campbell though and has proven that he can win big in the exact same conference. Seems very delusional
I think people are probably referring to it in the context that their fans think they are a blue blood like a Duke or Kentucky who can just get any coach they want. It’s a good job, but it’s not that
I mean, it is going to be the best job out there this spring right?
They’re delusional.
Also, Campbell would be similar to JB in terms of trajectory at the same stage of their career as in JB from WVU and Campbell right now. Plus, I know a few peeps who have played for Campbell and they all said the same thing about him. They loved playing for him and they’ll run through the wall for him. If Michigan Football fails, Campbell is my #1 candidate. Whatever the program is, it seems to be broken.
Yes, but does that mean they can pick any coach they want? Does that mean Brad Stevens and Chris Beard are beating down the doors to come there? They’ll get a good coach. Beilein is a good coach. They likely won’t get a home run coach to leave a great situation
Biggest confusion for me is the focus on Beard. Isn’t he like top-5 highest paid in the country? And from Texas? With an entirely southern resume?
He coached under Bob Knight at Texas Tech. Not saying it makes sense but that is the connection.
