Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

“A quiet 30 points on 13-16 from the field.”

Iowa is lucky Gonzaga didn’t shoot 70%+ from two tbh. Zags missed a lot of uncontested looks at the rim.

What’s his season percentage now?

Yep. The shooting splits tell the story…

wow at Other 2s. like a Mike Dantoni offense

A cool 78%, if my math is right.

Just a Fran McCaffery defense

BTW, was that Friend of the Program Larry Scirotto with the travel call against Suggs that should’ve been a blocking call on Nunge?

Yes a Scirotto/Pfifer crew and you wonder why it got messy in the end.

Nothing like a good 11-point blowout. Iowa was really lucky Gonzaga shot 10% worse from two than their season average. Iowa shooting 20% worse from three than their season average had no impact I’m sure.

Go Northwestern football

To be fair, at least in the second half, Iowa earned their relatively stingy fg% allowed at the rim. They let way too many guys get there but they had some pretty solid contests.

O/U was 170. Eeezzzz Money :moneybag::moneybag:

As far as 11 point games go that wasn’t particularly close, you have to admit that.

But if you’re an Iowa contender person I don’t think you should waiver from that game. Iowa will win based on offense and getting completely shredded by the best offense in the country is to be expected. But that also wasn’t a performance to convert Iowa haters

The thing is… we know that playing how Wisconsin plays works in the Big Ten, playing how Michigan State plays works in the Big Ten… what is going to make playing how Iowa plays work this year in the Big Ten when it hasn’t worked?

So they shot 10% worse from two against by far their worst defensive opponent, on by far their easiest looks? Based on the looks they probably shoot at least 20% higher from two in this game than they actually did. Their shooting from two was definitely a bigger outlier than Iowa’s shooting from three.

I disagree, I thought Iowa missed about 10 very open threes and that was the story of the game. Gonzaga got to the rim at will, finished the majority of the uncontested looks and missed many in the second half that I thought were more properly-contested.

We know Iowa’s defense stinks. Today Iowa’s offense was bad, and I think much of it was self-enforced. I would have expected a 30 point loss if you showed me the shooting splits before the game.

I have nothing I can provide of insight here that will sway you, we’ll just have to wait and see. My belief isn’t that this Iowa team is magically different than previous versions, it’s that they are a lot better than previous versions. You may be right, maybe they can’t win in the big 10. But today was about as poorly as the Iowa offense can play and all in all, it wasn’t as bad as I would have expected.

Wisconsin looks great and will rightfully be the Big Ten favorite. Would love to see them play Gonzaga.

Wisconsin up to second on Torvik and third on Kenpom after their game.

Yeah I think you nailed it. First half was very much a “time to eat crow” half. Second half I thought Iowa battled, just couldn’t hit any open shots from three. Doesn’t move the needle either way IMO. Gonzaga is gonna be a nasty out to anyone with Suggs at that level.
