Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

Gonzaga shooting poorly from the FT line, too. Normally shoot 74%.

Michigan is an enormous TBD. And have they? Maybe slightly better. Syracuse is ok. Boeheim was happy to tell anyone who would listen that they barely even got to practice leading up to the season and were out of shape. And Maryland is worse than PSU.

Today definitely proved the “if Iowa has a bad shooting day they’re done” theory, but Bohannon alone has missed like three open looks to make this thing interesting and a 9-point deficit to Gonzaga with how poorly they are shooting from three and from the line honestly doesn’t make me think any less whatsoever of Iowa’s chances as a contender

Wow, Suggs with a ridic stepback three-pointer.

That’s an NBA shot.

I would take Suggs over literally anyone in this year’s draft

Today proved that Iowa plays no defense. I don’t think you can really take much from the margin of the game just because it wasn’t the 20+ final deficit that it was early in the 2nd half.

Gonzaga is really good but Iowa had more horrific defensive possessions in this game than some (contending) teams will have all season.

Iowa has gotten a pretty friendly whistle this half.

Yeah, going back really to about halfway through the 1st half, when Gonzaga started to run away. Rubber banding.

Yeah but I don’t see those two as linked - you can’t control how well the opposition shoots FTs. If Iowa did what they normally did, this game could be a nail biter right now.

Is there an argument for putting Michigan way down at 7th or 8th?

They play no defense, shot as bad as they will all season and didn’t get run off the floor by the team that is head and shoulders better than everyone else in the country.

This should have been a 30 point loss but Garza went nuclear (as he does every game) and Gonzaga stopped making threes at a 66% clip.

They didn’t get run off the court? The last 10 minutes of this game was basically open gym.

Sure - they ain’t played no one.

At this stage I think where you put Michigan has more to do with your own pre-conceived notion than performance (because there really isn’t a meaningful datapoint).

They missed five open shots to make it a two possession game with under four to play, so I would say no they were not run off the court.

Iowa’s best defense has been their offense getting Kispert and Timme in foul trouble. Might be their best defense all the time

Garza threatening 75% from floor after today? Unreal offensive numbers.

Refs are seriously trying to give Iowa everything they can here.
