Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

The committee disagrees

Clemson #6. One B1G team top 15… yeah still sucks

I’ll be honest, I’m very confused right now.

So, obviously this is how it is all going to shake out: Feel free to debate, scoff at, discuss.

U-M (1 seed, Natty. Yeah, I said it, Natty.)
Illinois (2 seed, Elite Eight)
OSU (2 seed, Elite Eight)
Iowa (3 seed, bounced in first round, janitor works OT to clean up the remains of Fran’s head, which exploded at the horn)
Purdue (5 seed, Sweet 16)
Rutgers (6 seed, round of 32; Pikiell gets a street named after him in New Brunswick)
Wisconsin (7 seed; bounced in first round; everyone blames it on the cursive-yet-not-cursive “r”)
Maryland (10 seed; bounced in the first round, the entire state of Maryland whispers post-game “They were IN the tournament?”)
Michigan St (12 seed [non-first four]; round of 32. Izzo blames the loss on his players, then says it’s his job and his responsibility for how horrible his players are, because as he states in the post-game interview, they are really bad because he’s really good.)

NIT invite for Indiana, they decline, Miller gets another year, entire team enters transfer portal or NBA draft.

NIT invite for Minnesota, they accept, get blown out first round. Little Richie gets canned. Entire team stays because Little Richie got canned.

Penn St signs Ferry and removes interim tag. Considering the pile he was handed on short notice, PSU fights hard and they’ll win a BTT game, maybe even two.

Northwestern extends Collins for another four years because, this one time, at band camp, he made the tourney. Every other B1G coach immediately sends him a hearty congratulations and a sigh of relief that he’s back.

Nebraska will finish ahead of at least three teams next year in the standings. Hoiberg asks that his team have an extra month to play a 20-game conference schedule to make up for this year.

Dunno what prompted this. My apologies. Go Blue!

A lot of Gopher fans I know are talking about recently fired Timberwolves coach Ryan Saunders as a replacement for Pitino if he gets canned…

Love to just flip between 2nd generation dynastic mediocrities!

Can’t plus this enough. When we got rid of kings in this country, apparently we still had a yearning for the general concept. I mean, there aren’t 100 amazing up-and-coming young coaches at smaller schools who would dynamize the Minnesota program?

Well, at least they’re talking about getting rid of 'Nepotino."

The entire state just can’t help it. I can’t explain it. They’d gladly sign PJ Fleck to a lifetime contract even though he got absolutely tooled by Jim Harbaugh last year.

I don’t know how anyone can not hear a description of how SOR/WAB work and not immediately want to seed the tournament like that.

KPI is a horrible metric, and I would not change my opionion because it ranks M #1.

Seeding determined by number Zs in the head coaches last name, or closest letter to the end of the alphabet.

Penn State is extremely noncommittal to its basketball program but I don’t know that they would go this far. Ferry’s D1 resume is abysmal and it’s not like this season has been a Cinderella run for PSU.

Maybe they got no applicants

Alright guys, whipped this up cause I enjoy these even though they are dumb, and I usually hate the valuing. Most of these do it positionally but that leads to certain players just not being viable and doesn’t actually make sense, especially with the B1G having 5 Centers in it’s best 7 or so players.

$15 budget
$5 Garza Dickinson Cockburn Dosunmu Jackson Davis
$4 Carr Wagner Livers Liddell Williams
$3 Trice Washington Wieskamp Henry Harper Jr
$2 Smith Frazier Fredrick Scott Potter
$1 Walker Stefanovic M. Jones Banton Other

Smith - Stefanovic - Henry - Wagner - Dickinson

Dosunmu-Setafnovic-Henry-Wagner-Potter.

I’m doing this from a best fit perspective, not a how they’ve played this year one. Potter is a tier below the rest of the centers but he’s still a really good player, and there’s more value in getting elite guards/wings from this crop than an elite center IMO. Him at $2 is the best value pick, along with Wagner (who I think is a $5 when you consider defense).

Also I’m terrible at math so here’s the re-do.

You went over the salary cap. You will now have to pay a luxury tax to @kturnup
