He is probably thinking about how good Brown will be when he cuts out those mistakes, and that giving mistakes a consequence (coming out) will help him grow past them.
Who just had a better week? UM or MSU?
- Michigan
- Michigan State

I chose MSU but feel like i need to justify it - If Michigan lost their two games this week, that doesnt torpedo their season, but bc MSU won both their games, it gives them a glimmer of hope and potentially changes the trajectory of their season.
Illinois is better than Iowa
I get that. You need to have some consequences for mistakes. But itâs been painfully clear that Gabe Brown is one of the five best players on MSUâs roster and heâs been absolutely buried on the bench until late and only seems to be playing now because Loyer is hurt and the other options (Hall, Hauser) have shown themselves to be basically unplayable in most matchups. Maybe all the sitting that Brownâs done has given him more clarity to cut out the gaffes but I also think that you need to let guys be able to make a mistake and play through it, otherwise theyâre just looking over their shoulder 24/7 wondering when the hook is coming. Thatâs been Gabe Brownâs life.
I do not like thinking this, but the way MSU has played the past few games stylistically, âIsaiah Livers sustains a lower body injury on a âhard foulââ feels like an inevitability.
Oh would you look at Izzoâs (I canât use the word on this forum) buddy Kevin Pauga tweeting out.
Heâs been very visible on twitter propping up MSU over the past week or so. Can we all agree itâs a bad look when the associate AD is trying to prop up their team on social media??
From pointing out how teams have struggled returning from covid, to criticizing certain metrics. I am sure he would never criticize the KPI though. I could see Pauga making the case MSU is deserving of a 5 seed.
Boosting the case of his employer seems pretty routine and mundane?
If he was just a dude in their athletic department it would be a nothingburger, but since his metric is on the NCAA team sheets and is used for seeding/placement of teams, it does feel a little iffy. I also roll my eyes at his talk about what metrics measure when I look at the history of the KPI on Bracket Matrix and see that itâs one of the worst performers in the history of the matrix.
To be fair, everyone who hates the KPI should probably be happy that it is one of the worst performers on the Matrix because it means that it isnât being used. I donât think it is really intended to pick the field.
Who had a better week? MSU, obviously. Winning games is novel for them. Michigan just had a normal, typical week.
I saw Pauga had a tweet the other day along the lines of saying the bracket shouldnât be based purely on Strength of Record/WAB, but on something between those metrics and⌠KPI. It made me laugh out loud at the audacity.
Apparently some didnât listen to the last podcast where BQ was calling MSU dead and hopeless while Dylan tried to come up with paths to the tourney
YeahâŚ
Also, this response:
Gotta come up with a formula that will most consistently be favorable to MSU on an annual basis.
Unless they care to invite a bloodbath, Juwan is going to have to read the officials the riot act BEFORE the game. Those teams may be playing three times in the following week, and I donât think Michigan will be coming out willing to be intimidated. I think that the kind of stuff Izzo gets away with has been incredibly iffy for years. They may need to do some hard thinking in the B1G offices about how much longer this goes on.
I think itâs a close question, but MSU is hoping to make the tournament and probably immediately lose in the first or second game. Michigan winning twice this week makes it very very likely we are about to raise a banner and secure a one seed.
There is some good data that one seeds have a significantly better chance of advancing than even two seeds. I voted Michigan, but can understand the argument for MSU.
MSU could beat Indiana but not get the 9 seed if they lose to Maryland and Michiganx2 + an Indiana win over Michigan or Purdue (yikes) OR a Minnesota win over Nebraska and RutgersOrPSU.
MSU could get the 9 seed if they lose to Indiana if they beat Maryland and Michigan once and Indiana loses to Michigan and Purdue.
Basically MSU has to finish with one more conference win than Minnesota (6 wins; @Neb, @PSU, Rut remaining) and Indiana (7 wins; Mich, @MSU, @Pur remaining).
IF MSU gets the 9 seed because Indiana and Minnesota implode on themselves then I really donât care. Theyâd still have to beat Rutgers/Maryland/Wisconsin to get a 3rd chance to beat us and to lock in a tourney berth.
If MSU earns it by beating us once, then I welcome a 3rd game so that we can win the season series.
Maybe the KPI is the greatest rankings system ever now? (note: this was a joke)
