Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

Painter should be top 3 as well

Illinois/Iowa were favorites to win the conference. I donā€™t see how they get the nod over Turg but maybe Iā€™m wrong.

Painter needs to be up there. Lost 3 guys who all started games for them last year and standing at 10-6 in the conference if they actually got to 20 games they might have 13 conference wins.

Well, Iā€™ll tell you whatā€¦my life must be in shambles because I look forward to everything you post!

My quick answer would be, noā€¦unless they are teachers! Wait, NO, that wouldnā€™t work either, would it? Hmmmā€¦

Hey, guys, Iā€™ve now gotten both vaccinations! Iā€™m certainly happy about that, but I CANā€™T WAIT until we can get EVERYONE vaccinated! And, if we are going to expect college kids to play basketball for our entertainment, gosh DARN IT, we ought to be vaccinating those kids! OK, rant over!

Yeah, this is mostly true. 2-3 weeks after this fist dose, you are 50% immune, and you have to wait 3-4 weeks to get the second dose. Then its another 3-4 weeks after the second dose before you max out your immunity. Obviously any immunity boost is better than none, but that would be the timeline. And the beginning of that timeline would depend on the distribution plan for each teamā€™s state and how quickly the progress thru it. For instance, if UofM players were vaccinated tomorrow, theyd be jumping a couple hundred-thousand of 60+ year-olds in Oakland county alone. PR nightmare, and really not too ethical

One thing to keep in mind here is how the vaccines are getting distributed. All of the vaccines getting created are being sold to nations directly, not individuals, companies, organizations, hospitals, etc. And then those vaccines are getting distributed to state governments, which are then distributed by the states to various organizations (counties, hospitals, pharmacies, etc.).

So, one of those hospitals or pharmacies would have to make a deal to give vaccines to young student-athletes instead of a front-line worker / vulnerable person in violation of CDC/state-level guidance

Folks in higher-ed are getting vaxxed now, incluing adjuncts. Thatā€™s so they can be put in class, but the same argument would hold with players ā€“ if they are getting exposure for university-related activities, I think thereā€™s a good ethics-based argument for doing it.

That said, thereā€™s a whole bunch of angles and opinions and I can see arguments otherwise as well.

Interesting to think about that. These kids are being asked to represent the university and put themselves at risk because of itā€¦hmm. Of course, since they arenā€™t considered employees it would seem the NCAA would have a bit of a catch-22 on their hands.

Go Green?

Rocket back to PG?

MSU starting Watts, Langford, Henry, Brown and Marble. Back to Watts at PG, super small starting lineup and no Hauser or Hall starting.

Oof, you stone Kofi cold but let that rando get an OReb?

Kofi just needs to finish and this game is in the bag for Illinois. Idk how MSU is going to defend him without giving wide open buckets to everyone else.

I generally am fine with FS1 broadcasts, but by far the most annoying thing they do is when thereā€™s a ā€œdeveloping storyā€ or ā€œbreaking newsā€, they have it flashing across the bottom of the screen way too often for way too long. Super distracting IMO.

Yeah this looks like they can win at half speed.
