Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

Let me bring attention to BQ’s now brilliantly titled story post-Iowa blowout:

Who is the most sure thing to be a starter on next year’s MSU team? Loyer? Kithier? Would say Henry but…nba. Would say Brown but…Izzo doesn’t know he exists. Would say Watts but…transfer. Would say Hauser but…he might ask to come off the bench. Would say Christie but…freshman playing for Izzo.

that leaves Bingham by default I guess?

What are our thoughts? Is Rocket actually sick or are they buying time regarding this transfer talk? Will he be with the team tomorrow?

As funny as this situation is, I think Hauser is a guaranteed starter next year ha

Am I crazy or does this actually give them a better chance tomorrow? If the PG rotation is just Henry and Hoggard, Izzo can’t run his bizarre hockey line changes every 90 seconds.

Enoch says he wants to be at a place where he can get more run. Says lots of guys returning…

Finally, MSU getting players to stick around works in Michigan’s favor.

Even then, MSU still isn’t good enough with a stable rotation. They’re a bad team no matter how you slice it

Derrick came into a far far better stable of players–which allowed for his freshman role–Elite 8 even without McGary. Akins will need to contribute from day 1.

Exactly. MSU has such major issues at PG and C that just running it back and hoping for year over year improvement isn’t going to cut it. Akins and Christie need to be freshmen starters and stars of the team. Also, if Henry and/or Brown leave (both seem like strong candidates to do so) then MSU has a problem on the wing too because the only guys really capable of playing the 2/3 on the current roster are Watts (transfer?), Henry (NBA?), Langford (put out to pasture?), and Brown (rising senior who’s been in Izzo’s doghouse his entire career).

I like Akins and Christie a lot. You could hypothetically have a Akins-Christie-Henry-Hauser 1-2-3-4 lineup which still has the potential to be considerably better than some people are throwing around, IMO. Still a long way to go though… no ones roster looks like what people think it will look like in February.

I don’t know much about Christie, at least not for a guy who spends all day on a college basketball forum. But I do think Akins could save Izzo’s bacon the way Winston did. He has a towering ceiling IMO.

Yes but Izzo has done them zero favors with his coaching this year.

Coaches Poll is now out, too.

  • #3 Michigan (same)
  • #4 Ohio State (↑ 1)
  • #5 Illinois (↑ 1)
  • #14 Iowa (↑ 2)
  • #21 Wisconsin (same)

Honorable Mention: Rutgers (#29), Purdue (#31)

Tom has him in a dungeon somewhere, and is putting on his leather mask.

Do we think Henry’s coming back?

No idea on that one.

Purdue getting disrespected. This is a team that’s a 6 seed on BracketMatrix but can’t break into the top 30 on the polls?

IIRC there is some stat on guys who put their names in the draft and then return to school. They virtually always leave the following year.
