Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

Nebraska’s next 2021 victory will be in November.

EDIT: Make that their first 2021 victory, since they haven’t won game this calendar year.

It’s really too bad we’ve already played Nebraska. They are solving everyone’s schedule problems

The B10 is hell bent on getting the games in, the BTT in, and making it to the NCAA all on their terms. Don’t worry about school, injuries, competitive balance…crazy.

Would be interesting to know the most games teams have played in a short span like that before. This has to be a record.

To be clear, I don’t think it’s something that’s super unlikely to happen. Just not very definitive. I’d be much more “I can see how good this can be” and less “hahahaha we will destroy the big ten for three years,” which has kinda been their vibe. Although I’m notoriously pessimistic and expect the worst out of any scenario.

Wow, instead of hosting Maryland and normal scheduling, they get an extra road game and a tighter schedule. Ick.

with Maryland on the bubble this really helps them avoid a bad loss

(assuming they can protect home court vs Nebraska)

Guys, this is Maryland we’re talking about. Big Ten doing Nebraska a favor by putting the game at Maryland.

With those two Nebraska games, it really does feel like there’s a path to the NCAA Tournament for Maryland.

7 games left: Minny, Nebraska, Nebraska, @Rutgers, MSU, @Northwestern, Penn State.

Probably need to win 5 of them to have a chance?

That looks about right, though I’d highly advise against losing to Nebraska at home as that would be a Q4 loss. Since it’s Maryland they’ll probably lose both Nebraska games but win both road games (granted NW and Rutgers aren’t super daunting).

Yeah part of me wonders if this scheduling is designed to boost Maryland’s NCAA hopes. Schedule does set up nice (even nicer now!) but something tells me not to trust Turgeon.

I think it is just trying to make the schedule work… I’m guessing that Nebraska gets two home games against Purdue on the weekend of Feb 20th which then balances things out.

So clearly the B1G doesn’t give a damn about Nebraska having literally any rest.

Is this clear disregard for the bottom of the barrel or should we expect Michigan to cram in 19-20 games as well?

Still anxious about how this schedule will shake out. Feels like every other team has gotten at least something scheduled except us.

Feels almost impossible to get Michigan to 20 but I’d be shocked if they only play 16. They’ll get some games in here… there are a lot of windows.

Potential slots:
Tues Feb 16
Tues Feb 23
Thurs Feb 25
Mon Mar 1
Sat/Sun B2B with MSU on Mar 6/7

I don’t think it’s impossible to get to 20 if we’re treated like Nebraska.

Feb 16th @PSU

Feb 23rd @NW

Feb 25th vs Illinois

Mar 1st vs Indiana

Mar 6th vs MSU.

That wouldn’t be as condensed of a schedule that Nebraska is currently being forced to play.

Fair point… that would be about the max. And I guess if you put it like that it does seem feasible.

Scott Frost is gonna be furious.

My guesses: Davison, Langford, Watts, McGowans, Buie, Hunter

Davison by far the worst

Let’s see if I can get a few.

  1. Brad Davison, Rocket Watts, Boo Buie, Al Durham, CJ Walker, Josh Langford, Trey McGowans
  2. MSU
  3. Brad Davison (by a landslide)

Yeah, my guess was that Michigan would play 18 games, but after what’s happening with Nebraska how can the B10 office not justify just doing the same thing to Michigan? Indiana and MSU probably both become back to backs at one site. And then the other three games are slid in at various windows.
