Rutgers team wide hot shooting to start the year was rather inexplicable based on the career shooting numbers of their players. It was a bunch of mediocre shooters that were all having career hot streaks at the same time. They have since all cooled off.
In Rutgers first game of the season they shot 1/8 on 3s. Over their next 8 games they shot 67/165 (41%). In their last 9 games, however, they are 47/174 (27%).
The team wide insane hot shooting has swiftly and strongly reversed course.
The problem is I would 100% make that post, but it would be made with a certain level of sarcasm. Whoever posted that wholeheartedly believes they have the best wins in the country.
Martelli also wondered if weāll see teams opt not to commit to playing in their league tournaments ā both really good and really bad ones.
āI read something about the basketball committee or commissioners putting out to teams: hereās our constitution, you canāt just ignore the constitution by not playing,ā he said. āI donāt know what that means, I donāt know if thereās penalties ā¦ but if thereās a last-place team, what are they getting out of this?ā
Not sure if posted but some serious rumbling in maryland circles that turgeon may be headed back to wichita state. Nate Oats would be pretty scary at maryland.
Interesting. I think Maryland is a pretty good gig. Itās almost certainly a step up from being in the AD/sports fandom shadows down in Bama, even if the path to wins consistently is a little more uncertain.
Alabama isnāt bad cause it does not have high expectations, doesnāt care about anything recruiting wise, and pays well. Oats already is only a couple 100k behind Turgeon, and Iām sure he could swing a raise from Bama using any open job as leverage. I mean Alabama has enough money to do whatever they want, even in basketball. Add in an easier conference and I can see why someone would stay at Bama if they have no prior connections to Maryland
I think itās a decent gig but I also think itās one of those āfans think the program is way better than it actually isā jobs. They have a nice tradition and itās a good spot for recruiting but it definitely wouldnāt be in my top ten jobs in the country and probably not top 20. Thereās also the not-so-small matter of trying to win in the Big Ten versus the SECā¦
I would agree that Maryland is a pretty good gig. Turgeon gets grief for not having long tournament runs. He shouldnāt be raked over the coals for what heās done in the Big Ten.
