This game would have huge ramifications for both teams too. Life support type of game.
Iāve missed watching MSU play
Based on the timelines do we know if any MSU players will still be out?
Langford and Sissoko (and Steven) are the three that tested positive I believe. Not sure on the official clock.
Steven is a tough loss. Heās a key member of the scout team and normally would give the starters a good look practicing as the 5ā4 Ron Harper, Jr.
B1G guidelines say a minimum of 17 days. Sissoko and Izzo (the son) were both announced on the 13th, but according to Izzo when it was announced the 17 day clock for them started on the 9th. So they should be good to go timeline wise for the Rutgers game on the 28th. Whether they are game ready is a different question, itās definitely possible we donāt see Sissoko.
Langford is the only other player who we know tested positive. There havenāt been any definitive statements on his timeline, but it was announced on the day of the Iowa game (13th) that another MSU player tested positive which is what promoted the cancellation, and that player was later said to be Langford. So if we assume he tested positive on the 12th or 13th heād be out for Rutgers as well.
We still donāt know if anyone else tested positive (I assume not if the Rutgers game is going to be played) and itās possible that these players are out longer than 17 days.
Thanks @MichiganMan2424 ā¦ more dates and specifics in your post. I would note that I believe the 17 day thing doesnāt apply to practice. As in, thereās a point in the process where you can return to practice.
Do you think a rule like that might induce a coach to cut corners to get a player back on the court? Letās say the coach is telling himself, āThis player hasnāt even been sick/only showed the mildest symptoms? Whatās the difference between fifteen and seventeen days?ā Or is there some safeguard for that?
You mean in terms of getting them back to practice? If I remember correctly itās a 14 day minimum to end the quarantine (may be 10 after the overall guideline was reduced from 21 to 17 days). Iām not sure what the guidelines to end the quarantine are, but I assume itās the same that the CDC recommends and what I had after I had COVID (no fever or cough and good O2 levels).
After your quarantine is over, team doctors will start giving players a variety of exams to see if thereās any glaring issues post COVID (mostly heart related) and once they clear the player, they can begin practicing. Even if the player is cleared by doctors on day 12 or 13, they still canāt get back to game action until day 17.
Overall the B1G has the strictest guidelines of any major conference with regards to COVID. I donāt really think thereās much opportunity for corner cutting, and I donāt think itās really up to the coach to determine when the player can come back (ie no coach can say well he seems fine, let him play on day 15 vs 17). Itās a hard 17 day minimum, and can be extended beyond that if doctors donāt give the all clear or the player doesnāt feel ready to return.
Yes, that was what I wanted to know. Thanks for that info.
Maryland with an early 8-2 lead at Minnesota, trying to go for their third nonsensical win over a ranked team on the road.
We also have a rare non Stephen Bardo game, Len Elmore is on the call for the first time all year.
Home vs. Maryland was Michiganās best win of the year and Iām not joking
Minnesota -6 is my āfree betā with my first deposit now that itās legalized in Michigan. Not off to a good start.
Yeah MD seems to have this weird reverse homecourt advantage thing going.
Gabe Kalscheur is just a disaster. I wonder what happened to him
which Maryland player would be the most helpful to the Michigan roster? Ayala as a secondary ballhandler I guess?
Donta Scott as a small ball 5, also Donta Scott because heās an incredible player
Behind the line but massive flop
not sure I trust Pitino to dig out of a 9pt halftime deficit
Marylandās in massive foul trouble (3 on Smith, 2 on Hamilton, 2 on Morsell, 2 on Hart) while no one on Minnesota has more than 1, but Maryland somehow comes out ahead on an exchange of dumb fouls at the end of the half and has a 9 point lead @ Minnesota.
Carr has 14, Mashburn has 9, and the rest of Minnesota has 4 points.
