Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

Did people actually thought Sissoko was going to play asap?? I thought there were more people saying he was a project and take time.

Thorir Thorbjarnarson plays 60% of minutes for Nebraska, behind only Allen, Banton, and McGowens. His PRPG! on Torvik is -1.5. The closest guy to him in the B1G is Anthony Gaines at Northwestern: +0.6 in 50% of minutes.

I know there are built in bye weeks to get games in but with Penn St postponing 4 games, Nebraska/Purdue postponed, Nebraska/Illinois postponed, maybe Nebraska/Illinois on Saturday gets postponed. When should teams start trying to move games around now instead of trying to get in 6 games during these byes?? I think it would be wishful thinking to believe there won’t be anymore games postponed between now and when the byes start.

Loyer ever being a top 100 prospect was probably the most baffling ranking I remember since following recruiting closely.

Yeah, if you’re 5’8 and a below average athlete, the rest of your skillset is just completely irrelevant.

247 had Loyer as a generic 3 star and that made more sense.

I think if you developed a quick algorithm for composite team talent weighted by age, Michigan would possibly end up #1 in the Big Ten? We are 2nd behind MSU in raw talent and 3rd in the Big Ten in experience, but MSU is well behind us in experience on KenPom. Plus, if you weight by age, then Dickinson’s rankings would get a boost. You’d probably expect a 20 year old top 50 recruit to be better than an 18 year old ranked around the same spot for the coming season (except if it is Sissoko, apparently).

I think the issue is that most of the postponed games in the Big Ten right now involve either Penn State or Nebraska – and they are both on a pause.

If Penn State was back playing, then I think you could just replace mutual opponents with Penn State instead of Nebraska but that’s not where we are right now.

I still think it’s quite odd that there isn’t any guidance on how a regular season champion will be crowned in the event of unbalanced games played. Hell, even guidance on determining BTT seeding.

I get the conference wants to play every game and has implemented those collapsible byes, but it’s certainly possible that they logistically won’t be able to reschedule every game. Or a team has an outbreak after the last collapsible bye in February and can’t play their final game or two in March days before the BTT.

Why bother? They ignored the rules they set out preseason for football, so maybe “making it up as we go along” is a more honest approach?

Hadn’t seen this posted yet, love to see the two together!

Cool little nugget that Franz and Hunter were in Beilein’s leadership class that he teaches

Matchups…

Smith - Simmons
Eli - Saddi
Franz - Sanderson
Livers - Juwan
Hunter - Hunter

I’d pay to watch that.

Enjoyed that. Made me scratch my head a little though when Beilein said we don’t turn the ball over

Beilein called this Michigan team “we” a couple times. I think he realized and consciously stopped

This means Maryland will be off for over a week before coming to Ann Arbor next week.

The optimist in me is going to refer to that as the “Donta Scott Cooling Off Period”

Delays starting to pile up. I hope there’s a plan for that.

We still have the two zippered byes. If the delays get huge we might need to schedule some back-to-backs?

Yeah I think the byes are nice but when the shutdowns become this prolonged there are going to have to be other options.

I think that teams that shut down will be expected to play a lot of games in not a lot of time.
