Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

Man Rutgers finally sucks me into the bandwagon after I talked them down all summer. Then they immediately start playing like garbage.

I will say the “Pikiell is an elite coach” talk has made me roll my eyes constantly though.

Three games tomorrow but two of them feature conference dogs who will likely present futile resistance. Minnesota @ Iowa has a chance to be good.

I’d say Pikiell is a good coach. There are a lot of good coaches in the Big Ten.

As others are saying, I’m not really sure how the same players suddenly forgot how to play defense.

No stirring halftime speech, it appears

Is it possible Omoyuri is that important for their defense?

Could play a factor given how bad every non-Myles Johnson big is on their roster. And that Myles Johnson is an auto-auto bench for foul trouble.

Rutgers led 26-20 at the 7:50 mark. In nearly 12 minutes of game time since, OSU is on a 32-6 run.

Time to find a different game to watch.

We’ve seen some crazy runs recently. This, Illinois-Northwestern, Iowa-Maryland and Michigan-Minnesota come to mind.

Texas/WVU is on ESPN. I’m checking out of this thread for a bit!

I would also like this article or podcast.

Wisconsin, at Indiana and Michigan State on deck for Rutgers…
at Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, at Rutgers on deck for Michigan State…

That MSU/Rutgers game is lining up to be an all-out desperation game for both teams.

he transferred last season and sat out at Oregon. They were elite defensively without him last season.

Wrong Omoruyi. He’s talking about Cliff, who got hurt against Illinois.

In my gut I think of Indiana as the “breather” but they just refuse to play as poorly on the court as they do in my mind.

IU and OSU are the two teams I can’t figure out yet. Are they good? Are they just playing the bottom half teams?

Well it clearly isn’t Cliff since they struggled the same on D when he was playing this year also and he was not on the team last season either.

So odd for such a similar group of players with a good defensive coach to see such a decline on that end.

OSU is elite when they’re hitting jumpers but that’s not how they’re built and it doesn’t happen often. They don’t need them to win a game but if they get them it becomes all the easier.

Indiana is a tougher nut to crack. They’re elite defensively but I couldn’t tell you why exactly.

They were significantly better defensively early in the season. 19th adj def efficiency before Omoruyi injury, 122nd adj def efficiency since (and falling)

Archie and the Airballs seem like they’re figuring out how to play a few catchy tunes. No chart-toppers, but I’ve heard worse.
