I feel kinda bad for the Iowa fans that are buying into the hype and expecting a special season.
Wow.
Itās too bad they didnāt get to play in a tournament last year.
Whoaaaa, thatās not something I expected to see. Youāre right about the tourney, it wouldāve been his first appearance. Heās only 49 (younger than I realized).
Wow. Wonder what the motivating factor is here.
Has to be related to Rasir Bolton situation.
Based on Dylanās tweet (and now post)ā¦maybe itās not too bad they didnāt get to play in a tournament last year.
Oh, I definitely didnāt know that had happened. Probably best that they are parting ways.
Thanks. Had completely forgotten about that.
Assume Penn State goes interim for now given that we are a week into practice and budgets are destroyed by COVID, but would have to think Phil Martelli is on the board as a candidate when they get around to hiring a new coach.
I had a post asking if he might be a candidate and then self-deleted. Boooo.
This entire year has been insane. I absolutely read this statement in July when it was first postedā¦ and then at some point I completely and inexplicably forgot about it.
I wonder if weāll ever find out what the internal investigation revealed.
Thatād be really fun, and a nice cap to his career. Iām sure heād get to stick it in the eye of the AD that fired him at St Joeās.
Kinda curious what kind of jobs will be going after Martelli. Heās not exactly young. And he wasnāt exactly dominating the A10. I understand heās well loved in Philadelphia tho. Will he interesting to see how much this assistant stint has helped his perception.
I seem to recall Chambers being āclearedā at least initially from the Bolton situation, correct? Or at least pending further investigation???
My reading of the tea leaves is that investigation probably was not going to end well and there had to be more than this isolated situation and the infamous āfinger pokeā from our game a few years ago, so this was a way to resign before things got really bad.
Say what you will about Chambers, but he at least built them up to being a middle of the pack B1G team, which is more than really anybody else could say. I could see this being a mutual fit for Martelli in that he probably wouldnāt bottom out and can at least keep them stable for the 3-5 years he may have left. Have to wonder if they went the interim route if they didnāt make a run at Beilein? Or if this could be a landing spot for JB?
Have you noticed that weāve reached a stage where the students are sometimes far better-spoken and. . . persuasive. . . than the superannuated types who coach them? Seems like something of a watershed in college sports.
You have to hope that situations like that at PSU and Iowa (in football) quickly come to mean that good players just donāt give certain programs the time of day. Might help to hasten some necessary change.
Hypothetically, if Penn St didnāt want to hire Martelli as HC but as the top assistant and mentor to a younger HC (similar to his position now) do you think heād leave for that position?
