Trey was also a sophomore, Ayo is a junior who has snubbed the NBA for 2 straight years (tho he was probably a 2nd round pick at best, each of the last 2 years). Ive probably said it 15 times on different threads, but it’s so frustrating that we only got 2 years of Trey (of course he was right to leave when he did, I wouldn’t argue that) and MSU got 4 years of Cassius.
I honestly don’t see any similarities between Ayo and Trey in terms of play style, stat line, game, frame, skills. They are both guards who are (were) good.
New AP Poll is out:
B1G teams ranked are:
6 Wisconsin
10 Iowa
14 Rutgers
15 Illinois
16 Michigan
17 MSU
19 NW
21 Minnesota
25 OSU
9/14 B1G teams are ranked with Indiana receiving votes.
The highest ACC team is FSU at 18.
MSU still getting a lot of cache from those Duke and Notre Dame wins.
Keep in mind…
Top 200 teams that Notre Dame has beaten: Kentucky
Top 200 teams that Duke has beaten: Notre Dame
Fun fact: Michigan is 11th in WAB
I’m just super interested to see how MSU does this week. Minnesota tonight is now a 1 point favorite according to Torvik, and MSU now needs a ranked road win to avoid an 0-3 start in conference play. In reality I think MSU is still clearly the better team and should win, but the past 5 games MSU has let the opposing team’s PG play close to the best game of their season. Marcus Carr could potentially have a huge game tonight.
If they lose this game then I’d assume they’d fall out of the top 25. Their next game after this is @ Nebraska, which according to Torvik is the 3rd easiest game they have left (home vs Nebraska and PSU are the others). If I had to bet I’d say MSU goes 2-0 this week, but if even a 1-1 week isn’t going to look good for them.
I could see them putting it all together tonight and blowing out Minnesota the way Illinois did only to find themselves in a dogfight with Nebraska later this week.
Yup. Easy to see Carr feasting, but also easy to see an MSU win nonetheless, somehow.
I understand how the AP Poll got to this point but that is quite a poll…
Early returns seem to point at Wisconsin and Illinois being the two best teams in the Big Ten.
Here are all the Freshman in the B1G getting at least 25% of mins. Would say from this there are 3 contenders for FOY: Dickinson, Curbelo, and Newman. With Dickinson having a large lead in counting stats and efficiency -while also having a continued path to maintaining or even growing his current role- it seems like he’s a massive favorite now
I think more has to do with program history and Thomas Izzo being the head coach
Maybe I am not having enough respect for Carr and Minnesota but I think MSU blows them out. MSU is 0-2 in the conference but after a horrendous performance against NW they went toe to toe with a top 10 team for 30+ minutes. They need Watts to find his way as a facilitator, need Langford to get more minutes (after not playing for 2 years) and get more from the post. If MSU even gets a tick better defensively they should roll against Minnesota.
I think Miller still has to be in the conversation behind Dickinson. He has a high enough ceiling and has shown enough capability to be a really good freshman this year. I still think that it is a race for second behind Dickinson at this point but I would take Miller as the player with the best possibility of displacing him.
Counter argument: they shot over 70% from three and lost at home.
So is anyone putting money down on Minnesota +2.5? Computers say it’s a good bet
IMO Hunter has been our mvp to this point. I wonder what place people would put him in for Big Ten player of the year as of right now? Top 12?
Miller has gone scoreless in 2/4 B1G games. As a player you may be right, but for an award like FOTY that already puts him in a big hole.
Yeah, seems like it’s a decent bet… But Minnesota is also underperforming their preseason metrics like MSU is (Torvik without preseason has them as roughly equal teams, so I guess it should be Minnesota -1 or -2), and feelingsball-wise, this feels like a rebound spot for MSU. So I’m conflicted on betting it
I promised myself years ago that if a Tom Izzo team was ever available moneyline -150 or better against a Richard Pitino team that I would bet MSU no questions asked. We will see how it goes.
