It’s be really hard to surpass Flaherty…

I don’t think so. Flaherty scores a ton of points. Don’t think Naz will catch her in that category, but Flaherty has a negative A:TO as a guard. She did not provide much outside of points. Naz can score, play defense and rebound. She will probably average a double double her junior and senior years. And probably go to the NCAAs four times whereas Flaherty went 1 time.

Thinking about MSU next year. Is this their rotation?

1 - Watts (30) / Loyer (10)
2 - Henry (25) / Hoggard (15)
3 - Brown (25) / Kithier (15)
4 - Hauser (20) / Hall (20)
5 - Tillman (35) / Bingham (5)

Approximately. Although they’ll spread their minutes out more, Hauser will probably play close to 30. And I think Tillman is gone.

Maybe this is recency bias, but Izzo just seems like he has become more and more of a prick (and MSU seems like a more and more embarrassing place to be). I have to think that Izzo’s magic at getting NBA players to return has to subside soon.

Agree on Tillman being gone. The 5 probably looks more like a close to even split between Bingham and Sissoko, with some minutes sprinkled in for Kithier.

Sissoko will play next year (probably significant minutes if XT leaves). And Kithier at the 3? Hall would be more likely to see time there than Kithier.

Kithier is a 4 or a small-ball 5, no?

Hauser will probably get closer to 30 minutes a night.

10 minutes a game from Foster Loyer would be LOLtastic (EDIT: on closer inspection he already gets 8 a game so 10 isn’t out of the question).

The nice thing to think about is that MSU will only have 5 guys really suited for the 1-3 spots (and one of them is Foster Loyer!) to the point that a PF will have to play some minutes on the wing.

Sissoko has a ton of potential but id be pretty shocked if he made a big impact as a frosh, he is extremely raw.

I agree that he is raw, but if XT is gone, he is competing with Bingham and Marble for minutes at the 5. Not exactly a murderer’s row. His athleticism alone could help make them elite defensively with a lineup of Watts-Henry-Brown-Hauser-Sissoko. Hauser would be the only subpar defender and 4/5 would be very athletic for their positions.

I have to think Hauser and Henry are closer to 30 mins.

Its probably “the plan” but I’m really suspicious of turning the point over to Rocket Watts at this point. He seems to mostly be a nuclear athlete just running around, not close to running a team.

I agree but starting Loyer is completely untenable. His ORtg is 33 in 2020 and his defensive liabilities are firmly established. Playing Loyer 30 minutes next year is a great way to miss the tournament.

Hoggard is a bizarre recruit and certainly not a 1. Also not really a 2 IMO – more like a 1990s power forward in a 6’2" body. Incredibly beefy with minimal handle.

I don’t see an alternative to Watts at the 1.

With MSU next year, I would just focus on best players:

Watts, Brown, Henry, Hauser, Tillman would be a good five. All of those guys can be 30 min/game players.

Now obviously if Tillman leaves, you do some reconfiguring. Kithier, Bingham, Sissoko, Marble should still be enough at the five. Hall is a nice backup for Hauser (who can play 3/4).

Nice situation for a transfer guard too.

You could very well be right - but I think we’ve identified their chief problem. Losing Tillman would hurt clearly because you don’t just replace that caliber of production, even though I think they’ll get good play at the five. They do have a pretty good group of wings.

I’ll believe Tom Izzo loses a fringe NBA prospect with remaining eligibility when I see it

btw fun fact: Josh Christopher torched Hoggard at the Dallas EYBL last May

regardless of Tillman’s decision their roster comp is so awkward. Basically 11 wings and bigs and 2 playable guards.
