Big Ten Basketball 2019-20 Discussion

Rutgers is fighting back in this game.

No, kidding, six point game now with 2:50 left.

Seasons change, years pass, empires rise and fall, but Wisconsin remains eternally Wisconsin.

Is it more beneficial for a OSU win or a Maryland win?

If you want to hang on to the incredibly unlikely but still technically possible chance we have to share the regular season conference championship, then Ohio State. If you’re like me and just want to maximize chances to get the double bye, not to mention enjoy OSU losing whenever possible, then Maryland.

Haven’t done all the math, but I would guess that double bye scenarios are tough because of Illinois’ sweep over Michigan.

Illini are 9-6 and still have Nebraska, @NW, IU, Iowa on the schedule. Likely that they’ll get to 12 wins.

Let’s focus on the more important task: staying in the top half of the bracket to play day games

Seems possible, though not likely, that we could end up lumped with Iowa and MSU though as well. Where do we shake out with those tiebreakers?

BTT tie break starts with RR record among tied teams, believe the next one is record against the #1 team(s).

If you’re rooting for the most entertaining outcome, Mark Turgeon going 0-5 down the stretch to blow a 3-game lead for the conference title is still in play.

2% chance, per KenPom. Gotta believe in Turgeon but he could still get it done.

I’d rather Turgeon not go 0-5 and keep MSU from winning the conference again, even at the expense of our slight chances to win the conference.

Confession: I feel like I am told to dislike/discount Turgeon…but in reality he just doesn’t bother me for what he’s done each season at Maryland. I put him ahead of several others in this conference. I guess it’s all about March results for him

I have no problem with him as a person, I just think he’s not that great of a coach.

Totally agree with this. Anyone but Sparty.

They are just so offensively challenged. They need to recapture the max effort defensive approach that got them to this point. It was missing for much of today’s game, but they showed it for several possessions down the stretch. I don’t know how you could get a team to play that way for 40 minutes when they’re already likely worn down from the grind of a season, but that’s what Pikiell and his leaders will have to do for them to win a couple more games. I’m pulling for them; would be such a good story for them to make it to the Tourney.

Yeah I don’t dislike Turgeon at all, I just find his results hilarious since the moved to the big ten. I think they’re always in the top three or four teams in terms of talent but they’re 2-5 in conference tournament games, 4-4 in NCAA tournament games, never advancing past the sweet 16, and no conference titles in that span.

This year seems gift wrapped for him, maybe the narrative changes.

Northwestern looks like it’ll be the first 1-19 team in conference history. Obviously only the second season of 20 conference games but I think it would be a long-standing record.

Chris Collins is doing everything a man can do to get fired. Terrible season. Two 3-star recruits coming in for '20.

Maybe I’m an awful person but I personally find lots of entertainment out of the doormats being great doormats. I was upset when NW made the tournament because the fact that they had never made it before was hilarous. Now enjoying their fall again and Collins’ demise after the Medill grads acted like they cared for a minute. Now I am rooting for Rutgers to not make the tournament as going from top 25 in January to out of the tournament would be so on brand for their athletic department
