Big Ten Basketball 2019-20 Discussion

Kind of the perfect result from a Michigan perspective heading into Wednesday’s game… hard to see NW getting up for another underdog spot after that deflation. Still needs to be emphasized all week that this is a super trap game and absolute must win

It is remarkable how Chris Collins got zero program momentum out of that tourney appearance, even with a major facilities upgrade.

Northwestern hoops!

That’s not totally true. They did land a nice class that coincided with that year. Nance and Kopp were both good recruits and they had another top 100 type from that class didn’t qualify at the last second.

Fair enough, but he certainly hasn’t gotten much out of them. At this point it looks like they are stuck in “wait until the coach’s buyout goes down to fire him” purgatory.

Northwestern has lost 4 games this year after having a double digit second half lead.

Nance was always overrated. Was relieved we dodged that bullet. He’s not really good at anything in particular. Kopp is the only guy on their team that I like.

When did 2-for-1’s become a thing? I’d never heard of them referred to as such prior to this year.

It’s been going on in the ACC for years. They always seem to extend the game fouling as well. Last night Duke did it effectively and forced overtime, then again in OT to win it.
Edit: Not the 2 for 1, but extending the game with fouls.

Agreed, hundred percent. I liked kopp a lot and more than nance.

I still can’t get over the fact that NW starts a 5th year grad transfer senior whose prior largest superlative in basketball was that he was the 2-time MVP of the greater-Annapolis adult rec-league (obviously the lacrosse success shows he’s probably quite athletic, but still)

As Bart points out - this play IS legal in lacrosse, so…

Him or Kopp is their best player, too, which should tell you all you need to know about Northwestern. Jokes aside about the lacrosse background, he is legit solid. He can really pass.

I don’t mean to mock the kid - he’s obviously a very good athlete and just the fact that he could walk onto a roster after having not played truly organized basketball for 4+ years and not embarrass himself is remarkable.

That said, I think we can agree that there aren’t many power conference teams out there that would be getting him 30 minutes a game.

Wait what? I must have missed this.

NW’s starting PG is a grad transfer Lacrosse player. Apparently he’s one of the best collegiate lacrosse players of all time.

Yeah, he was the National Player of the Year last year.

Can’t wait for Izzo to lambaste Xavier Tillman for missing time because fatherhood
