Iowa should be ashamed of themselves
When Aaron Wheeler hits a 3, you know it’s going to be a good night.
Purdue matched their point total from their last game in one half tonight. Insane.
And they promptly score only five points in the first four minutes of the second half.
Has Fran’s head exploded yet?
Looking forward to top 10 KenPom team Purdue in the play in game
‘Always ready’ Austin Davis makes most of his minutes for Michigan
Terribly unfortunate if true but if it indeed happened I wonder if it would put him on the Justin Fields play immediately track.
Statement from Wisconsin Athletics
Erik Helland, director of strength and conditioning at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, resigned his position Thursday afternoon. Helland had been the strength and conditioning coach for the Wisconsin men’s basketball program since 2013.
UW Athletics administration was informed last weekend that Helland, while recounting a story from earlier in his NBA career, had used a racial epithet in the presence of multiple Wisconsin men’s basketball student-athletes. UW Athletics confirmed that assertion on Sunday. UW Athletics works to promote a safe and welcoming environment for its student-athletes and staff and the aforementioned language used does not align with the values of the athletic department, men’s basketball program or the university.
Helland was placed on administrative leave on Monday and did not travel with the Badger men’s basketball team to Minnesota for the team’s game Wednesday.
Multiple public reports have indicated that UW Athletics has been investigating the alleged use of racially insensitive language directed at one student-athlete. That allegation is inaccurate. UW Athletics has no evidence – nor has it been alleged to the athletic department – that Helland directed racially insensitive language toward any member of the men’s basketball team.
This will not help the overall reputation of strength coaches. Thankfully we have a great one at Michigan.
Why would anybody extrapolate to strength coaches in general based on this? Makes no sense.
Not sure I follow what this has to do with strength coaches. Has a lot to do with Erik Helland, and maybe to an unknown degree Wisconsin’s program.
UW pushing back on earlier article linked that the strength coach directed any racial epithets at King or any other player.
I don’t think people should take this stuff lightly. Black people don’t want to be around white people using racial epithets. If they use that situation to gain immediate eligibility, so be it, no judgement from me.
Including livers? . I also really like penn st and was positive they were going to beat us.
Out of that run of games on that tough stretch we all feared minus livers (Purdue, at state, @ minny, @iowa, home versus penn st) I thought wed go 3-3 or 2-4 at worst. The two for sure losses I had was at Michigan st and home versus penn st. I just had a bad feeling about that team and knew they were the real day. I felt better about beating Iowa and minny on the road than I did at home vs penn st with how hot they’d playing.
That said with livers I’d still take our roster. Livers is a top 50 player in America. I’m confident in that assessment and hes a top ten 4 man in America. You can’t name ten better power forwards, can you? Hell when I think about it can you name 5-7 power forwards you’d rather have? I’m thinking about it and I can’t name 7 better power forwards.
I knew he was really good before but thought we could survive ( thought Johns would have played like this from game one subbing in or close too). I underestimated just how vital he was to our success and overestimated our bench. I’m praying he comes back within two weeks and can get into the swing of things and play close to his peak for the last 3-4 games into the big ten tourney.
If livers comes back and Michigan goes 3-1 down the stretch then wins 2 or more in the big ten tourney, or dare I say goes to the big ten tourney finals ( gasp , lofty goals big not inconceivable with livers) I think it would look really good to the committee. If they see Michigan is 12-5 when livers healthy with losses being at ville, Oregon by one, at Illinois, say at Maryland then a tough tourney opponent I think we could get a huge boost based on his injury.
They don’t even need to do all that; finishing 18-13 would get them in. Winning at Northwestern and beating Indiana, Wisconsin, and Nebraska at home gets them to 17 wins. Then they just have to find a way to beat MSU on Saturday or win one of the Rutgers, Purdue, OSU, and Maryland road games.
17-14 or less and they’re probably looking at a scenario where they need multiple wins in the Big Ten Tournament to get in.
Big time road win for Maryland at Illinois tonight. Solo first.
