Big Ten Basketball 2019-20 Discussion

so states current issues are

back up pg - can’t trust loyer, watts is a freshmen combo guard. i expect this to get better by march (re watts)

outside shooting - no mcquaid/goines at 35 and 42% and their veteran D are missed. sample size aside, msu down -5% vs last years outside shooting

tillman - less outside shooting, less space inside the 3pt line

defense - younger team and its early days

distraction - off court distractions for teams best player

this team is gonna be fine in march, impressive considering all of the above. shooting the only thing i dont know how fixable it is

Indiana and Purdue are locks?

but certainly not because you’ll learn anything about basketball or the two teams playing

His constant reminder that he has Maui Jim sunglasses during the last few minutes of the game today was impressive.

I avoid watching any game Walton calls, unless it’s a game I really want to see—in which case I mute the television. In my opinion, he’s both obnoxious and an imbecile. He and Doug Gottlieb are the two commentators I absolutely cannot abide.

The last Big Ten game I saw him do (a few years ago), he enjoyed talking about how he couldn’t comprehend why any high school player would attend a Big Ten school…because of the weather. He has a tremendous talent for talking on and on about anything and everything but basketball. I got sick of missing the play-by-play, and of hearing his voice—which shall never again pollute my ears.

I agree, but I think the acc is lacking depth or strength in the middle of the pack this year. I have to look at the matchups but I’m expecting the big ten to win the challenge this year due to the superior depth.

To get in the tourney? Yes, I think they are and would absolutely bet on it if such a line existed.

I could see you doubting Indiana as they have a lot to prove but Purdue? They were a top ten kenpom team early for a reason. They struggled some games but they will end the year a top 25 school almost certainly and probably better. They really blew that Marquette game that was an epic meltdown. If those two teAms played again I think Purdue wins every time.

I’m driving the Indiana train this year ( sorry Dylan) I think they will be a surprise team. Not to win the big ten or be a final four caliber squad but I think they will finish much higher than most expect and will get in comfortably.

Iu they gotta show me against a good team. Purdue I just don’t like their roster. Guess we will see

What’s odd about them is I expected Williams to be starting and the focal point if the offense, playing 30 min a night. If I saw correctly he’s coming off the bench, I don’t get that. Williams looked unguardable at times late last year. Huge reason Purdue surged. I’d be feeding him early and often .

I expected wheeler to be the other star. They both looked poised for breakouts.

Same. Two big reasons for my doubt as of today.

So umm that first half against UCLA might have been MSU’s worst half, which is saying something.

Also OSU is now #2 on Torvik and #5 on Kenpom. Wow.

Epic choke doesn’t even describe what happened to Penn St. They are who we thought they were. Pat Chambers effect alive and well.

What? Penn State ended up losing??

Was literally just about to post in here about OSU. They go eight deep strong and that’s with Ahrens and Gaffney not really contributing much at all. They are tough.

I was watching it happen saying “no, this isn’t going to happen” but then the camera caught Chamber silent, arms crossed, quick check to the score and not doing anything. I’ve seen that move enough to know that he knew he lost before I or his team did.
