JB can't recruit high level talent out of HS...JB DEVELOPS...and finds right fits for his offense...he did this at WVU... Guys like Gansey, Pittsnogle, Herber, Young etc...
He gets the most out of his players skill wise… Now if you took his player development and applied it to high end recruits…We would be a top 5 program every year.
Exactly…there is a distinction between recruiting and development.
BTW it’s not like any of our NBA guys are all-stars realizing most are all still young…Lots of solid complimentary players. How many were consensus top 20 players? 1?
To those lamenting decisions to forego Brown or Edwards for Davis…the former are 2015 and the latter is 2016. Those aren’t/weren’t the opportunity cost.
I typically don’t engage in rumor mongering, but this board is on the verge of a meltdown, so what the heck?
A fairly reliable poster on another board indicated that michigan is definitely expecting a transfer, and could lose up to 2 more players this offseason–to a medical scholarship and the NBA. The second 2 possibilities have been known for some time. The transfer possibility is surprising, since JB said they weren’t expecting any. I assume it’s a big, considering the new commit.
Unfortunately we will be battling that in recruiting soon…Will JB be here in 4 years? etc…Teams will use it against us… Not good on top of our already problems…
We are a basketball program with expectations and with that comes criticism and good/bad thoughts and ideas. It’s healthy conversation to have because we all love UM…The university that stands by being the LEADERS AND THE BEST!

The cost of any of our 16 PG or wing targets was too great for this pickup. So at that point we’re just playing semantics. Bottom line is that this just isn’t a good move no matter what way you look at it.

Why do you have to be so vague about the “fairly reliable poster?” Does he have sources? If so, what are they?
(Edit: Sorry if that came across as aggressive, I’m just curious)!
I don’t think the difference between Edwards/Brown and Langford/Battle is “semantics”. I’m on record in this thread as saying I’m confused just like everyone. I’m just saying those aren’t the guys we’re foregoing. 2016 guards/wings are (barring multiple attrition, of course).
Why not just take Mike Edwards? Arguably more upside and better class balance? If your answer is we don’t have the scholarships then don’t tell me Donnal is leaving.
Does anyone really think Hatch will be put on medical scholarship? I am 99.9$% sure JB won’t do this, even though I am all for it if it means getting Jaylen Brown or not! Top 5 caliber players don’t come around too often for …That would be our best recruit since the Fab Five, a time when recruiting sites weren’t even born.

I’m not being purposefully vague. I don’t know who his sources are, but he has a pretty good track record about these things. I typically take message board chatter with not just a grain of salt, but rather an entire salt shaker. I just thought I’d pass the info along because it is the only explanation that makes any sense.

I know you’re not being purposely vague, that’s my bad.
@93grad, if Beilein thinks Edwards > Davis, then probably he didn’t learn of the attrition until after Edwards committed to Georgia. That’d be my guess.
