Jalen Wilson liked Cole’s re-commitment Twitter announcement, FWIW
If Wilson recommit i will happily be wrong
Combining the current rumors, seems like it could be saddi, yaklich, and Eisley. Then a senior advisor like jay smith and large support staff like Stackhouse built at vandy.
If Yaklich is that important to Howard’s tenure or UM’s prospects in general than Warde picked the wrong guy.
I personally like this, if true. It’s not my money, so there’s that, but I thought if you doubled Yak’s salary and named him Associate Head Coach or Defensive Coordinator, he’d have a hard time turning it down. Of course, I’d also want him to WANT to stay at Michigan, and I’d want Juwan to WANT Yak on staff. I don’t know why either of those last two contingencies would not be the case.
Wow, that is a strong-ass offer
Indeed. If true it shows that Juwan and the school know his worth. So if its Yack and Saddi does Hayes go back to Toledo in the same role as asst coach? I heard there is an opening there. Hopefully the AD will give Howard all the tools he sees he would need to hit the ground running at U of M.
Yep. While retaining Yaklich might get Wilson back in the fold and help with some continuity for next season, long term I don’t really see it being all that big of a deal. Yak was only going to be here another year or two anyways if JB would have stayed. He’s a great assistant coach. As JB has shown us, there are a lot of competent assistants out there.
What is the credibility of this report from the Texas site? Yaklich’s kids are in school here, his wife likes it here. I’m highly dubious about the idea that Michigan offered 40% more than Texas.
I don’t think Warde picked the wrong guy. I also think the only one who can truly determine the importance of Yak or any other coaching staff member to Juwan Howard is Juwan Howard. I hope Juwan sees the benefit of keeping Yak. I hope Yak sees a great benefit in staying. But ultimately it comes down to what Juwan Howard wants for his program and whether the two men see a mutual benefit in Yak staying. If the “report” of a $500k offer to Yak is true, I’d say Warde is being VERY supportive.
So if Howard retains Yaklich, and Michigan enjoys great success under Howard’s regime, Warde still picked the wrong guy?
Well, as far as that goes, I personally think he did.
That said, I preferred to gamble on Howard rather than go with someone like Jordan, Cooley, or Smart.
I also remain disappointed that Manuel did not appear to cast a very wide net in the search. I didn’t hear that any successful mid-major coaches had been considered, for example.
I personally think that it would be pretty awkward and could potentially create friction that isn’t necessary if Yaklich stayed. They both interviewed for the same job. One got it. The other didn’t. Yaklich would have to swallow a lot of pride to be Juwan’s assistant. Yaklich wasn’t long for his job at UM even if Beilein stayed. Good assistants come and go. It is part of the deal. Everyone was concerned when Jordan and Alexander left. It turns out that it wasn’t even a loss at all.
I wasn’t concerned when Jordan and Alexander left, but I suppose that must ring hollow, since I wasn’t part of the forum back then so there is no official record of this.
The timing was such that the “up and coming” mid major coaches already got new jobs in march and April
Washington also was interviewed and applied. You have a problem with him on the staff?
Disagree. Like saying if Harbaugh left and we got someone else, we wouldn’t pay up to keep don brown.
There’s only one forum participant that seems to inspire that level of research, and he’s found a different Michigan blog.
Several of the best ones, yes, but not all.
Have you never applied for a job in Business and not been successful? This happens all the time. If yak is thinking longer term about keeping doors open at um, I think he stays if we pay him/show our respect
