Assistant Coaching Staff Rumors & Discussion

One thing about Brooks is that if there is no more yaklich on staff, there goes his incumbency advantage in terms of understanding the defense.

To be fair, man-to-man defense isn’t really that different other than maybe some language or terminology. You can do different things and emphasize different things, but the concepts are going to be very similar.

Really?!? I’m VERY confident that Nunez and DDJ will collectively shoot better than 7% from three.

Yeah me too but I’m not confident they will shoot better than or even close to the career 37% and 39% from Poole and Brazdeikis that a lot of people seem to be writing off as easy to replace

Are people really suggesting that DeJulius and Nunez will shoot better from three next year than Poole and Brazdeikis?

Maybe I’m making a false assumption that those who think the offense will be better next year are also saying we will have better shooters.

I think what people were saying is that next year’s offense would be better with Wilson and Franz than it would be without, not that they would make the offense better than last year.

Ahhhh yep, now that I wholeheartedly agree with

I’d take the bet that one of the two of them shoots better in conference play than Poole’s 32.7%, if anyone’s on the other side of that one.

IMO it’s quite feasible that if Michigan can put three good shooters out there around Z and T it will have a better offense.

Poole shot 113 threes in Big Ten play, I’d be very surprised if either comes close to that number.

Hopefully that’s because Livers, Wagner and/or Wilson are shooting them at that volume.

So where do you think the scoring comes from next year? Someone needs to replace the lost production just based on sheer volume of minutes and attempts. Michigan struggled bad to score at times last year and the logic is that they will have an even bigger drop off after losing Poole, Iggy and Matthews. What a frightening situation that will be made worse if Michigan doesn’t land any of Cumberland, Wagner or Wilson.

Just my two cents, but hopefully from guys that aren’t shooting them from 25 feet out or more.

I’ll bet neither of them shoot Poole’s season % of 36.9—at least if they get a volume of 20 or more—particularly DeJulius.

What does a low post option give you? Does it not clog the middle? Sorry, I’m just sick of hearing about the low post option like it’s this big savior, no way Z gets in the middle with the big sleep standing there plus the guys guarding him. Look for Juwan to spread the floor or drive and dish…the three ball is here to stay. The heat are also a progressive team. Spoelstra has mentioned how he likes UM players (DWALT, DR) because they understand the game. The HEAT help turn DR into a better player…I expect JH to have a similar approach.

It allows Michigan to better attack 1-5 switches in the pick and roll.

I would be happy if they can shoot over 26 percent from 3 against MSU or Texas Tech…which is what Poole shot. Many of those makes at the end of a game already lost. I would also be happy if they become good passers which neither Poole or Iggy were. Maybe they will be strong rebounders, something Poole was not. Losing Iggy is a blow. Losing Charles is a blow to our defense. I think outside of that, we won’t miss a beat.

Amen, ball just stuck in Poole’s hands until it clanged off the rim or was heading back the other way fast

Sums up perfectly how I felt about Poole’s game last year. Replacing him is the least of my worries about next season.

The problem with replacing Poole is that there’s no clear replacement for Poole.
