Announcement Primer: Josh Christopher

Hope Cole uses this opportunity as motivation! I have been high on his future. His future may just be starting sooner than expected! Zeb and Cole, step right up!

Agreed. Not a Michigan Man in my books. To lie and deceive for ā€œshock valueā€ is disturbing. Seems like he’s blessed athletically, but in this for the wrong reasons. We’ve seen this story before with certain athletes.

I find it best not to keep score on a message board. We are all susceptible to bad takes now and again.

I keep going back to this, theres a reason why no real heavy weights in cbb recruiting were involved with a talent like this. Most logical thing is they all thought he was a package deal with his brother and didnt want to waste their time being used to drum up interest.

The idea that he recently made up his mind and kept it secrete as his father is saying doesn’t fit with what John Miller is saying. If Josh’s brother and cousin didn’t know where he was going, they wouldn’t have told John that he was 100% going to Michigan. They would have just said that it’s up in the air…

Again, there are more than a few explanations here beyond ā€œthey are liarsā€ and I’ll let you suss them out should you feel so inclined.

I don’t get why you are being so purposefully vague. Ant Wright is now saying his source who told him he was going to ASU yesterday before he announced also told him it was going to be ASU back in September.

Ant prefaced that by saying he himself isn’t an insider, but that this guy was right about Todd going to Michigan, Burnett going to Tennessee, etc…

Wright is revealing that throughout the entire process and when all the crystal balls were flooding in to Michigan, he asked this guy and he said it was going to be ASU the entire time.

This guy could just be getting lucky repeatedly with educated guesses, but who knows?

I’m being vague because I don’t feel a need to comment on people’s motivations without knowledge.

So we now have two people who say they have ā€œinside knowledgeā€ whose ā€œsourcesā€ were saying diametrically opposed things. Again, I would think this raises more than one question (that I don’t know the answer to!).

I still think the coronavirus played a pretty big role in his choice, both directly and indirectly.
He obviously liked ASU and they may have even become neck-and-neck with Michigan. Then a life-threatening disease comes in and I imagine that’s changed a lot of people’s outlook on life. The pull to be near family (and with family, in his case) is a natural reaction.

And, for the indirect influence- Juwan wasn’t able to make any late-recruitment visits and JC wasn’t allowed to make another visit out here. Out of sight, out of mind. The fresher memories were from going to ASU.

I think his choice probably swayed in the last couple of weeks but that it was still something he was not 100% on until when he finally settled on an announce date.

I think JC certainly likes creating his brand but I’m not as cynical as some here. I don’t think he played Michigan. I also don’t think he felt any obligation to refute any media or fan speculation/predictions, nor should he. Maybe, years from now (or sooner), we’ll read something different but I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Ummmmmmmmm.

It’s not misplaced faith for our first year head coach to put together the best recruiting class in the conference during his first 10 months on the job.

I think the class is very good, but are there any instant impact guys? Probably not

Agreed. Maybe there’s a question for Dylan embedded in this: Are there lessons to be learned from this, for Juwan? Or are the circumstances just so unique (Howard as first year head coach, late to the cycle, the two recruitments themselves, etc) that you don’t want to over-learn anything from this?

I mean the fact is we didn’t beat out the big boys for Todd and Christopher. Those guys were dropped by Duke and UK because they have to replace a roster every year so they can’t deal with lots of those long term recruits that give out weird vibes.

Terrible take.

Dickinson was the MVP of the WCAC. He showed out in a league with lots of other high major players. He will no doubt have day one impact. On that same note, Michigan has also had plenty of much lower ranked freshman make immediate impact than Zeb and Twill.
