2024 Olympic Basketball

Women 3x3 are 0-3 now. They have a couple wnba all stars

They were doomed the moment Brink is out.

Amusingly the ā€œAzerbaijaniā€ who iced the game against us is an active 12 year WNBA pro, former all star, avaeraged 14 ppg across her NBA career, and was an AA at UConn. Sheā€™s from Winter Haven Florida, and has a dual passport because of the fact sheā€™s played 2 basketball seasons for a decade.

Their center isnā€™t as decorated but was a good college player and a former WNBA player (but mostly European leagues, and is similarly Azerbaijani (ie, not)).

Womenā€™s team forcing the issue at the rack again, but not scoring that efficiently on them so far.

Edit - no run here, US just slowly bludgeoning them a bit at a time, lots of volleyball off the offensive glass.

Belgium is the 2nd best team in the world and USA had to have a buzzer beater shot to beat Belgium in the qualifying tournament. This is expected to be a competitive game between both teams.

Turnovers/offensive rebounds slider man point at each other meme

Maybe too soon for these guys who are enjoying life on a boat, presumably, but I think the 3x3 team should have been Carmelo, LaMarcus, Rajan, Blake Griffin and Gordon Haywood. Feel they could hang.

And Iā€™ll say again, why would anyone that has made that much money want to play in regional 3x3 qualifier tourneys in their retirement?

Blake griffin could barely move last season. Also heā€™s been golfing exclusively since retirement lol

Hah yeah I almost left him off. But the bar is a guy 7 years out of Princeton!

There is no funnier concept than Canyon Berry

With the US hosting the Olympics, I wonder if they can get creative though. Technically the host can put a team in any event. Not sure how far reaching that is. As in, we can put in whoever in whatever event? Or if there is a baseline of some sort.

For the record I donā€™t think creative is washed up iso dominant nba players. But maybe they can pull some GLeague level guys in for a year?

A straight up GLeague salary isnā€™t much. So they just need one company or one rich dude to sponsor them for a year or two.

Berry and Jimmer are Gleague level guys(or were) but I donā€™t think the other 2 are

That team would be unstoppable

Hummel talked about this on some podcast (maybe Hoop Vision back in the day?) where it sounded like it was basically just some rich guy who wanted 3x3 to survive who was flying them all over and hosting them for different qualifiers and such.

Greece up big on the Boomers at halftime. Giannis finally getting some help from Walkup

This one is big as it could shake things up quite a bit. Depending on the score of this one and the what happens in the Canada-Spain game, any 1 of Australia/Spain/Greece could go home. ANd also anyone of them could end up being USAā€™s QF opponent depending on the Germany-France game as well.

Brazil likely locked their spot in with an 18 point win over Japan.

All that and some 8:00 a.m. Robbie Hummel in August.

Now Greece canā€™t score at all. 2 point game with 2 mins left.

Greece pulls it out by 6. Was interesting cause Aussies didnā€™t want to foul due to differential. Aussies are up on Greece in differential.

Greece wins by 6. They need Canada to beat Spain by more than 3 points to finish 3rd in the group.

Which would also clinch them a spot most likely against the US

US should be rooting for France over Germany. Depending on the scores of that game and the Canada-Spain game, then the US could play BRazil. But if Germany wins theyā€™ll almost certainly play the 3rd place team from group A

Does point differential determine top 3 group winners? Or is it drawn?
