2024 NBA Playoffs Thread

Suggs can at least play defense. But if you replace Fultz and Anthony with someone that can shoot, they’ll look a lot better.

The Magic just want a bunch of 6’5idh players that can do different things. Suggs fits that. He took a huge leap this season

I think Anthony could have a Coby-ish type break out but yeah I mostly included him bc he’s young and played a lot of minutes for this team more than I think there’s much upside left.

Someone mentioned Anfernee Simons and that’s probably a good option for the Magic. Or Malik Monk.

Gonna be really interesting how cutthroat the Magic are with Suggs and Franz in extension talks this offseason. Feel like one path is just to keep the good vibes going and pay them whatever they want but there’s def another direction they could take it to avoid overpaying for what it seems like they’re both gonna be and focus on keeping more of the powder dry around Paolo.

It’d be pretty savage to fail to come to an extension with either of them but I’d probably be willing to risk paying more the following summer to find out if Franz shooting 28% from 3 is real; and on the flipside if Suggs shooting 40% from 3 is real

To me, Suggs is a poor man’s Chauncey. I like him.

Destitute man’s Chauncey

His top top end outcome is Jrue Holdiay

That’s a crazy good outcome!

It’s very good! I don’t think he has that level of offense in him, but we will see.

My big thing here is that Suggs and Wagner in all likliehood are going to have to get paid over $50 million between them next year to get them to sign their extension. Banchero is going to get that the year following. DARKO aside, I’m not SOLD Banchero is a #1 on a top 5 NBA team (may be) and I’m pretty sure Franz isn’t a #2. I’m pretty positive Suggs isn’t. That’s starting to “lock in” a certain ceiling.

I feel personally disrespected by the notion of JJ Redick as a serious NBA head coach candidate. he has never coached. it’s insulting

neither had Steve Kerr I don’t believe. though he has front office experience

but I agree it definitely is very risky

Did Doc coach before the Celtics? I know he was doing TV broadcast directly before

I rather roll the die on the new coach instead of hiring retreads.

That being said, JJ’s zero coaching experience is a huge risk. JJ understands the players, schemes and analytics (based on the podcast) which he has something going for him. How he conduct rotations, ego management and communication is a huge unknown. A big part of NBA’s HC job is to manage egos.

Looks like he didn’t. He’s def a good comp for what JJ could look like, as he retired then was media then was coach, all in about 3 years after retiring.

I think if you want to say there’s almost certainly not a top 5 guy between Suggs, Franz, and Paolo, I think I’d agree with you. But I’d guess it turns out one is a top 20, one a top 30, and the last a top 50? They’re all young enough and solid enough on D that the runway is pretty long here.

I’m not sure what implications that has for giving them all rookie maxes or thereabouts. I think those will all be good deals bc they’ve already shown they’re at least as good if not better than a lot of guys who’ve gotten similar. Like, whoever they get traded to would extend them right?

Is it just the case that you can’t get under the 2nd apron with a hypothetical 35% max guy on top of these 3 also hypothetical 25% rookie max extensions?

Doc coached the Magic before the Celtics, but he had no experience I can find before the Magic

Sorry yeah that’s what I was referring to

He was doing TV before Boston but had already been HC of the Magic.
