they should hire bronny

My nba hot take, once you get an average nba coach there’s barely any difference between that and the guys viewed as the best. They are all running the same stuff. This is a league where players have literally went from playing to being hcs, hc value is crazy overrated in the nba.

I’m surprised Pelinka hasn’t been fired. He made the roster worse after the bubble championship.

I think the distinction is often soft skills and not scheme. Thibs seems to reliably get his guys to play maniacally hard, for example. Daigneault has gotten a bunch of lottery guys to play team basketball and accept roles, etc. Nobody is inventing a new ball screen coverage.

Rotation management I think is extremely important and something that does vary from guy to guy.

Juwan Howard as Laker HC please

A lot of time the front office determines the rotation though too

in a dysfunctional uncollaborative situation (of which there are several), sure

On good franchises it’s a two way street.

Regardless, the VPO isn’t dictating lineup combinations

With a storied team like the Lakers, combined with having arguably the GOAT of basketball, expectations are going to be sky high no matter what. The FO put up a really shitty defensive team in Vogel’s last year and magically expected him to have a top tier defense.

The team could have been Caruso, Reeves, KCP, Kuzma, Lebron and AD as the starting point. Probably still need 3 more rotation players to be a contender but much better shape than they are now.

i know of at least one study that demonstrates coaches have a very large impact on team defense.

even being RAPM-skeptical and shrinking the heck out of the range of coach impacts you still end up with the best coaches mattering a lot. that also reflects the consensus view around the league.

aside from regular season long term impacts and that kind of thing, i think the consensus sentiment that some coaches are simply not cut out for the playoffs seems correct as well.

Franz with 14 in the first quarter.

This game is getting testy. Getting some vintage Moe as far as pissing off the other team.

This Magic team cannot shoot. If any of them ever figure that out they could be naaaasty.

Bickerstaff should draw up a look for anyone but Mitchell, they’ll never expect it

This Cavs team…will not shoot (aside from Mitchell)

Inhave never seen a weirder offensive game in a playoff from a team

I just don’t get Mobley

I could see the Magic adding Malik Monk or dare I say Zach Lavine in the offseason.

3 points and 0 assists on 5 shots for Mobley. Just gave them absolutely nothing offensively tonight

He was kinda like this in college. He might just not have the ego for it?

Would love to know what Mitchell did to take his game to another level again. He’s not old obviously but still late enough in his career that you wouldn’t think he’d go nuts like this.

When Michigan beat his Louisville team i thought he would have a good career. Nothing like this though.
