I’m thinking he will begin next season on the sideline
The Bucks are officially eliminated so Horst is available for the Pistons to hire him for the POBO position. I would consider it a success if the new POBO yeet Monty and Weaver out of the organization.
So according to the stat guys, Knicks/Sixers featured 2 of the 4 least likely comeback wins based on the score entering the final minute of play, and there’s a guy who tracks what he calls “excitement index” and “tension index” (I think just basically tracking how many big swings occur in close games late) and his (made up!) metric says this was the most exciting and tense series since the availability of play by play data.
It’s a great series as a neutral fan. Brunson has outplayed his contract and it’s the best contract value in the league by a wide margin. The funny thing is his contract is descending each year. Since his last year is a player’s option, it’s almost a lock that he’ll opt out of it and get a bigger bag.
Unfortunately I fell asleep and missed most of the second half excitement but apparently so did Tobias Harris
by that metric, he’s missed about the last 45 games
I don’t see him leaving the Knicks for a billion reasons. They have 2 more years to build around it, shouldn’t be an issue.
Jalen Brunson becoming an elite NBA player still baffles me. He has neither plus athleticism or size and is a lead guard. I always thought Trey Burke was just as good as him…and then Brunson just made the leap to all-league while Trey washed out of the league.
He has a player option after next season. He can opt out and re-sign with the Knicks for a bigger bag. If I’m Brunson, that’s exactly what I would do.
I think for him and the Knicks there is a high level of commitment for a lot of reasons (not least his dad, and his personal relationship with Leon Rose), so pure logic may get thrown out
I don’t mean this lightly, he has about the best footwork you will see in the NBA
I think also his level of commitment and “dog” vs Burke is, uh……extremely vast. When people talk “hoopers” - Brunson is possibly #1A. Perfect technique, 100% commitment.
I laugh every time I hear someone say Monty is terrible and needs to go. First I do not see him going anywhere with that contract hanging around the Piston neck. Second Monty did not construct this roster. which lacks athletic shooters who can get there own shot and defend. Pistons have to be the worst or one of the worst teams in shooting behind the arc. Cade can not be the only pick and role player on the team. I am conflicted about Ivey. I preferred two other players over him (Mathurin and Shaedon Sharpe) who are longer and probably more athletic. Plus I have never seen someone although he can set up his teammates throw the ball away as much as him in crucial situations. Cade throws the ball away alot also. All this to say this roster stinks and not on Monty.
Roster stinks but Monty also stinks. Both aren’t mutually exclusive.
Also, there’s report that Gores won’t get in the way of whoever is the new POBO from firing Monty and Gores is fine with eating up the contract to fire him.
Monty has mismanaged the rotation all year long and he is oblivious to the rotation. The fact Dwayne Casey got more out of this group with worse roster is damning of Monty’s coaching.
Sam Veccine has gone into details on how bad Monty has been as a coach while still recognizing the roster mismanagement from Weaver.
Actively choosing to play lineups that often leave some of the (precious few) shooters on the roster as spectators is not great!
also starting one of the worst players in the NBA ahead of a guy you’re hoping is a star ASAP
Yeah, I mean I know better than to put TOO much stock into random coach quotes because I doubt they’re heavily considered, but when he was saying things at the start like “Killian Hayes can knock down shots”, ti’s a concern, like “have you seen these guys play before?”. That’s a claim even the staunchest Hayes defender would do a spit-take at
Hayes camp asked to be traded only for no one interested in trading for him, then got cut, which he has yet to sign with anyone. That’s hilarious and sad at the same time. My guess is he’ll go back home in France to play LNB Pro A league.
Darvin the Ham Slamwich has been terminated
I think generally saying that two guys the FO just signed/acquired at significant expense “spent ten straight games dragging azzzz” (verbatim with the actual naughty word) is tantamount to saying “hi please fire me”
According to Lowe, Jeannie and the Rambis’ felt Darvin too often “lost the press conference” which many places wouldn’t care about but were talking the Lakers
I think Ham did…fine? I’m not sure what more people expected from this roster. If anything they outperformed in the playoffs.
