2022 NCAA Tournament Open Thread

Yep that’s definitely the case. Probably shouldn’t have jumped the gun for a meh candidate

Dang. Feels like the only somewhat mitigating thing is that Michigan State was top 5 that year, and they’re the reason Michigan didn’t win the conference either way while Purdue was the best team in the B1G, and there wasn’t that same top 5 caliber team.

Yeah, that’s fair. I’m still bummed we didn’t get any of the 3 against State. Led late in all, any 1 win gets a banner.

My wife hates it when I call people “idiots” so I’ve tried really hard to eliminate that word from my vocabulary! Well, at least in public, I still use that term frequently when driving my car alone 'cause there are a lot of idiots out on the roads these days!

Then, too, there are certainly opinions and “takes” with which I disagree on this forum but we don’t have any idiots on here anymore, so I try to be kind and reasonable in my disagreement!:rofl:

I strongly believe Painter failed to utilize Ivey in the best manner possible. This team always felt like 4 Purdudes + occasional Ivey iso to the rim. Can you imagine Ivey coming off those pistol actions Juwan runs for Eli? Not going to pretend I know more about offense than Painter, but how can you not up the tempo with a player like ivey or just cater more the offense more to him.

People have compared this Purdue team to our 2013 team. As it turned out their star guard had a chance to have his Trey Burke moment in the Sweet 16 too - but missed.

Still stings. As does not returning the favor by sweeping them regular season last year.

Jokes aside, Purdue fandom must be pure pain. I tend to like them when I encounter them wherever, so I still hope they break through eventually.

I agree that Painter could have used Ivey better, but this is still an unbalanced roster that went as far as a non-Michigan Big Ten team tends to go in the tournament these days. I like Painter. This wasn’t a do-more-with-less team, but he’ll be back soon enough with one of those teams like in '19 where you just don’t understand why he’s in contention for the conference title but he just is.

It sees as though Purdue’s offense philosophy for the last number of years is to get a humongous center surrounded by four shooters. This year’s edition of the shooters was "okay. (In fact, there were a number of games in which I watched Purdue and thought, “Stefanovich is shooting Purdue right out of this game.”)
Ivey gave them a different dimension this year, but as a number of posters mentioned, Purdue’s bigs tended to clog the middle up for him. And tonight he was really rough.

Makes me sick that it feels like this UCLA squad is going to another Final 4.

My stream for UNC is shockingly far behind. Someday I’ll pay for legitimate sports watching lol.

As long as they can take out Duke, I’ll be ok with it.

How come? They earned last year’s one and won as a big underdog versus Alabama and Michigan.

I’d pay good money for the tournament. Pay-per-view in the future, PLEASE.

Ernie you are a dangerous hothead. I don’t know if this forum can survive your reign of terror

Because they beat Michigan, I don’t like Cronin, and I’m a petty jerk.

The team itself is honestly fine, and Jacquez is a ton of fun to watch. But for reasons stated above, sick.

Eh, I’m okay with UCLA. Does America need a FF with Duke, Kansas, and Carolina? :face_vomiting:I realize that UCLA has more titles than anyone else and they are maybe still are considered a blue-blood, but they haven’t been super-relevant recently (until last year). I was disappointed that we lost to them last year when I thought we were clearly the better team, but I was giddy that they knocked MSU out in the First Four.

I actually had forgotten that they are a blue blood until your comment lol. Mick Cronin just personifies plucky underdog so heavily that I forget these things.

Really do not understand why Brady Manek chooses to look like that
