2022 NBA Draft Discussion

I have friends who know people on the committee and they sent me the list a couple hours before it was announced.

I don’t think there was any expectation that there would be McD AA for the '22 recruiting class.Just a bunch of solid players in this class.

Vecenie’s latest Big Board at The Athletic (updated today) has Houstan 26, Diabate 45.

For the Big Ten-
Ivey/Davis/Murray are 4/5/8
Christie 22
McGowens 27
Liddell 42
Gabe Brown 51 (!)
Kofi 64
Pete Nance 68
Edey/Trevion 70/87
TJD 95

Interesting cause I thought he excluded Christie last time

Dickinson unranked!

Dickinson has basically never been ranked or mocked as a draftable prospect, FWIW.

yeah, and I am unsure how much that will ultimately matter to his decision. It is weird to me, however. I would mock him above Trevion and TJD, for example.

Yeah I don’t get how you can feel more confident in Trevion as an NBA player than Hunter.

Good spot on the Gabe Brown inclusion. Seems like Livers/Chaundee where you could see him being on a NBA roster for a while.

What position is TJD going to play in the NBA?

Been thinking about that. Cody Zeller is a not-exact but somewhat reasonable comparison – few skills but he’s quick off his feet and makes FTs. Zeller’s still in the NBA.

I think he’s an undrafted type. Maybe he can be a Khem Birch type if he can develop mentally defensively to be an undersized backup 5 on a team that plays a really aggressive defense like the Raptors or Hornets do. Or he needs to develop a passable 3 pointer.

Seems like a guy who should go to Europe for his first contract and then be an NBA guy at 25, having come back with either a shot or really focused on being a good defender who can switch onto guards more.

I don’t think that’s an apt comparison. Nevermind that I think Cody Zeller was a substantially better player, he was larger, a better shot blocker, and had a more diverse offensive skillset than TJD. Zeller was also, arguably, the third best player in the entire conference the year he got drafted.

TJD is maybe a worse version of Jared Sullinger?

I struggle to see how TJD or Williams get drafted. They are undersized, non-shooting, single position players. I don’t see players like them in the NBA. I at least see players like Kofi and Hunter in the NBA - every team has 1-2 giant bigs that aren’t above the rim players. I don’t think either get drafted, but I think they will hang around.

TJD looks like an NBA athlete at times, but can’t shoot and may or may not be able to defend the four. Maybe a team gambles that he will develop the ability to shoot and play the four…feels like they might prefer a guy like Mousa with raw upside over him though

No one has them getting drafted. Vecenie has them close to 100

I don’t think Zeller had a more diverse offensive skillset. Another guy who couldn’t score away from the basket (just sat there in the middle of that Cuse zone in the tourney not taking 10-footers), lived at the line, and a good rebounder.

I don’t see how TJD plays in the NBA and I’d be shocked if Hunter doesn’t make it in the NBA.

TJD Comp – Bruno Fernando? In college, both are non-shooters w/ plus footspeed / coordination in college. Lots of putbacks and quick duck ins. Very similar size at 6-9, 235ish, I think.

Bruno is in his 3rd year and averages about 3 min/game w/ Boston. Was not resigned by ATL after his second year, I guess.

So we can dog TJD on this and I’m on that train from an NBA point of view since I’m not sure who he guards or how he scores in the league. But besides that…how is Trevion on these lists?? And ahead of Kofi and Hunter? Trevion isn’t more athletic or have a better shot or have more positional flexibility…what the heck?
