If we were going to just salary dump Grant for a pick 3 years down the line, why didn’t we just take the offers given to us in the last trade deadline?
That seems like a crazy price to me. OG is legit af.
Yeah he’s better than Grant, and younger.
I’m not sure why the Raptors aren’t keeping him?
I remember him making a couple of steals in a row against D-Wade in his rookie year.
The betting lines had a big shift overnight. Banchero is now the clear favorite to go #1, -200 vs Smith at +155. Late last night Smith was -550. Smith is now favored to drop to Houston at #3.
The projected order of the others near the top of the draft are unchanged; Ivey, Murray and Mathurin at #4-6.
Tonight is going to be so chaotic I can’t wait
Who do you think is best fit to play with Franz out of the big 3? The only thing I care about is not them taking someone who would send Franz to the bench
Franz is way too good and versatile to be sent to the bench. I’d like to see him next to Chet just because I think Chet is fun to watch but Franz is headed for 30+ mins a game in the NBA for the next 10+ years easily regardless of who else is on his team.
Definitely Chet as a complementary piece, but I would take Paolo first regardless of fit. I think his position overlaps with Franz a bit though.
Either way, it’s either Smith or Paolo who they take - both of whom would be the 4 next to Franz (they’d put Isaac into doubt, which…he should be).
Duncan finished his board of the “top 8 guys”, and ended up with:
Tier 1: Banchero, Sharpe (he is VERY high on Sharpe)
Tier 2: Chet alone
Tier 3: Murray, Smith
Tier 4: Mathurin, Ivey
Tier 5: Daniels
They mostly liked Mathurin as being a solid pro, described him as “an off-ball two guard”, compared him to Hardaway Jr., younger JR Smith, but with a higher defensive potential (noted that, like Sharpe, he frequently drifted on defense, but when he dialed it up, could do very impressive things).
Obviously, he is way higher on Sharpe (just sees the combo of skill, size, and athleticism irresistible) and lower on Smith (worried about offensive limitations in terms of making teammates better).
It’s funny how much people initially tried to nitpick everything about Banchero to make him the 3rd or 4th best player in the draft and now when it is finally draft day, a lot of draft gurus have come around to him being the top guy. Don’t overthink it. He’s by far the most dynamic playmaker in the draft.
This from Woj 40 minutes ago…
Dang. The top 3 draft props were taken down after the Woj bomb. Was hoping to quickly sneak in a Jabari Smith bet before that
Sharks manipulating the market last night…
I’ll take any Jabari stock being sold. 6’10" elite shooter. Plus a good defender. His floor is so high, and with shooting like that I’m not gonna put a low ceiling on him either.
Like Jabari Smith a lot but he also seems to be the worst fit next to Franz out of the three. Franz is a decent secondary playmaker but who’s going to create offense for the Magic, Suggs?
He’s only 19 so he has more room to grow. I don’t get the limited ceiling talk when he’s so young and already so good at what he does.
What players can you think of like Jabari that have just “developed a handle / ability to create”? IMO, non-shooting guard skills like handling and passing are basically baked in by the time you’re an NBA prospect. Players improve their guard skills… but not ever really to the point where they become a different type of player.
Feel like Jordan Poole is a counterpoint here. His handles in the NBA vs what I thought they were going to be when he was in College are worlds apart. He has become a completely different type of player.
I would say a slippery handle was always part of Jordan Poole’s game since he was in HS in Milwaukee.
