Yeah, I mean I’m always going to be more jazzed by wins and losses than KenPom as a fan
Funny enough, both can be and were true. Last year’s team was so many things.
We were actually ranked 25, not just in advanced stats.
LOL I had no idea. I’d like to know how many times a team goes from last 4 in to top 25.
Probably a better bet to evaluate and base future decisions on KenPom, though.
True, but if you’re speaking on predicting the value of future freshman basing it off KenPom rank is probably more predictive than raw record
Could say Sweet 16 team as well. Can frame it in a number of ways. KemPom seems like the most fair way and kind of the middle ground at least for last years team
Yes absolutely.
Well, we weren’t last 4 in either (though we were arguably last 5 in) as that honor goes to the play-in teams.
Yeah, there’s no magic equation because you’re not sure who will reciprocate interest and you have to recruit so early that you aren’t even sure what your needs are. I do think if all else is equal, be wary of international players in the NIL era. With that being said, I think there are some general things to keep an eye on:
- Make sure you have positional depth & flexibility
- Be strategic with your 5-star pursuits - they take a lot of time, are low probability of success, will probably only be around for a year, and aren’t enough by themselves to sustain success.
- Leave yourself a minimum amount of flexibility to pivot if you need a late signing or transfer
- Have balance in your classes/experience if possible
You can win a lot of different ways. I’m not a fan of the OAD model or Portal model as your main approach and we as fans got spoiled by the Beilein model.
Don’t see it with Roddy but good luck to him.
There are a lot of guys I don’t see it for, and there just aren’t enough spots for all of these guys, are there?
Can’t really see him in the NBA but nothing left for him to do in college. Seems like the kind of guy who could play in Europe for a decade+ if he wants.
Is he sure he doesn’t want to take some extra classes this Summer, graduate early, and come play the 4 next to Hunter next year instead?
Yeah I agree there’s not much to gain at this point. Just not crazy about his game, especially based on his performance vs UM.
Only 58 picks.
I hope someone with a lot of knowledge about the draft writes an article about how many underclassmen are in the draft compared with the number of draft spots. And then another article about how many guys end up going to the G-league or overseas relative to last year and five years ago and 10 years ago. And then another one in a year looking at how many guys are still playing.
I don’t know if this year is different but I’m genuinely curious.
The big shift is that the G League is a genuine development tool for teams in a way it wasn’t before. Jordan Poole is a great example of this.
It’s arguably a better development setting than college because you can get reps in a role you aren’t ready for with little to no stakes.
I wish all of these guys the best in their professional pursuits…but I wonder where a lot of them will end up. I never had the opportunity these guys had, but the haste to leave college life surprises me sometimes.
I am always perplexed this time of year. Kris Murray returning makes total sense IMO…but with others staying in the draft or getting promises based on modest performance & potential I wonder why an NBA team wouldn’t take a chance on him. He’s an ideal wing and his literal twin will be a lottery pick. Why not promise him a second round pick and entice him to stay in?
Assume this is behind the Ramey/Duke stuff.
