2022 NBA Draft Discussion

So which big pairs best with Franz Wagner?

I could see any of the top 3 be there honestly

Houstan to okc at 30th, thunder are known for gambling on upside and for promises……

Umm yeah if Givony has him there it’s done.

Sam Vecenie has him going 36th and no Moussa

Yeah top 36 from both Givony and Vecenie = he gone

Clarity is good. Good for Houston and good for recruiting that the pipeline is flowing.

Pacers grab him at 6 because they’re worried he’ll be gone by 31.

It’s weird-- when we thought Houstan would come back, I was excited bc of what we’ve seen from so many recent guys who helped their stock by coming back for year 2. Now that it seems like he’s gone, I’m kinda not particularly upset about it-- If he’s cool with being a late pick after being projected preseason top-10, he’s clearly betting against his chances of taking that sophomore leap a la Jaden Ivey, Sauce Castillo, Keegan Murray, etc-- all of whom became lottery picks only by proving themselves their sophomore years.

That jibes with the level of confidence he showed last year, and if that’s the way he is, I wouldnt really want to depend on him this year either. This might come off as a ā€œyou cant fire me I quitā€-type of take, but similar to Frankie-- you showed us on your way out that you werent gonna be what we hoped you would be anyway, so good luck, and no hard feelings.

The team should be a ton of fun this year with or without Caleb and/or Moussa, so cheers to the guys who are excited to be here, value the unique experience of college, and are not sticking one foot out the door from the day they step on campus.

I mean, it’s not like he was a selfish player. Or a cancer. He just wants to play professionally. No need for sour grapes.

Every player wants to go to the NBA. Pretty much the only reason Hunter is still at Michigan is because the NBA doesn’t want him - he had every intention of making this his last year in college from the second he made his announcement, and I don’t think anyone was against what he brought to the table this year.

Caleb’s confidence level was hardly low, and he doesn’t have the projectability most of those guys who did return. He would likely be a better player, but his role in the NBA is going to be as a shooter. Caleb was much closer to showing what he was at his best than Frankie ever did, and was clearly a valuable player throughout the year. There are very few players in the portal better than what Michigan would have expected, and likely fewer that were ever even a realistic option at Michigan.

Caleb Houstan #34 to OKC. With all those picks, OKC seems like a decent bet to pick him.
This also has Diabate going #44

So now we have 2 sources that have Houstan going 25+ slots higher than his ā€œbig boardā€ slot, both to OKC (albeit with different picks). I’d say there is a big difference to Caleb going to OKC 30th or 34th.

Based on recent seasons and contracts that early 2nd rounders sign I’d say there is not much of a difference at all between 30 and 34. The time where 2nd rounders we’re lucky to make a team is over.

Seems like OKC is a big target for Houstan so I think Juwan can start recruiting for Houstan’s spot. Diabate is a bigger unknown.

Well one is a guaranteed 3 year deal, the other is not. OKC may not be that good, but the sheer volume of players they have/are going to have is going to give them a roster crunch.

3 sources late first/early second. Sam Vecenie of the Athletic has Houstan going #36 to Portland

Schmitz reiterated the ā€œrumors of a draft promiseā€ in his mock article. At this point, I’d be shocked if he didn’t go to OKC.

It’s probably the differences of a 1 year guarantee and about 500,000-750,000 over the first two years.

Based on last year. With a promise, maybe they’ll guarantee the 3rd year and equal out the money.

Herb Jones was drafted 35 last year and got 3 years guaranteed.
