2022 NBA Draft Discussion

I think this is his biggest issue. Where his NBA meal ticket will be based primarily on defense, you’d like to be a better rim protector if the NBA is going to value you as a prospect

Yeah, finishing (hands, quick explosion) and rim protection are the keys IMO.

Camp Sanderson needs to be really focused on verticality this summer… He’s gotta be able to catch and finish lobs to stick in the NBA.

As a Pistons fan, if he does go, I’d like them to snap him up with a second second-round pick if they happen to have one, or make him their first phone call if he goes undrafted. I’d love to have him on the G-league team for a few years and see what happens.

Yeah, if I was an NBA team, I’d want a better sense of what he would be as a pro. Offensively, his skills are around the basket. Good footwork. But he’s not an anchor defensively. Sort of the Marvin Bagley problem where he’s a 5 on offense skill-wise. but not really a 5 on defense.

Maybe a dumb Q but why is Christie preferred to Houstan among draft folks? Their KenPom pages aren’t dramatically different anyway. Is it just that Christie was a little bit better and that’s the difference between somewhere in the second and off the board?

Houstan has only shown no ability to shoot other than catch and shoot. Christie has a pull up.

Stats aren’t everything. Max is significantly more athletic (at this point - not that it can’t change) than Caleb and also has may more ability to shoot on the move vs. just a spot up shooter

Max seems to be futher ahead on skill and atleticism to me, so tools wise, Max seems further ahead. I think Caleb had the better year though.

Is there a preference of Christie over Houston or are the boards a reflection of who they think is more likely to go to the draft? A lot of rumors out of EL is that Christie is unhappy there and therefore likely to not return. I havent heard anything about Houstan’s intentions or appreciation for his time at Michigan.

Sounds like Christie is more likely to stay in the draft given his feelings on the past year compared to Houston

Christie has shown that he can take and miss bad shots in addition to missing many open good shots and hitting a few.

Houstan has shown that he can only take open shots, and hits them at a higher rate than Christie but his misses are sometimes airballs so we all have to pretend he’s a worse player than Chucky Hepburn

I don’t think Christie is far ahead of Caleb by most draft people. Just that one has declared and the other hasn’t

Some notable declarations today:

Terq Smith

Shaedon Sharpe

Branham at #18. Stay in there!

But no Kofi, ugh. From presumed OAD to four whole years

Fwiw, Givony and Schmitz are by far the most connected guys with front offices, and their mocks tend to be hard on reporting and not scouting.

Thus, I tend to think their mock hews closest to FO consensus.

Edit: Givony is more geared to reporting, Schmitz more scouting. Still.
